Future Plans by Stacy Lee takes the reader through time as it follows Hazel's life. Hazel is a single mother who runs an event planning company. She got pregnant from a one-night stand her senior year of college. However, Hazel did not let that stop her from starting her own company. Her daughter, Ellie, is watched by her long-term nanny, Gabby. Everything seems to be going well until Hazel runs into who she believes is Ellie's father. Then, Gabby disappeared, and Ellie was picked up by a man claiming to be her father. Hazel's life is turned upside down by these events.

The narration of this book is told from several different characters' perspectives. It also jumps around in time a bit. This gives the reader a unique look into the characters and their motivations. For example, an early chapter is from Ellie's point of view. It gave insight into her mind as she struggled because her mother was so busy; Ellie felt sad she couldn't spend more time with her mother but understood how busy she was. Insights such as this helped to flesh out each character. Each chapter is labeled and informs the reader which character and time period the narration is through so it is not confusing. The narration style was my favorite part.

The narration also was used to highlight the relationships in the book. It allowed Hazel's best friend, Franny, a chance to shine. Franny was such a supportive friend, and the narrative style was able to capture that. Franny did so much for Hazel. Hazel was unaware of many of the things Franny did for her. The author did an amazing job of highlighting the friendships in the book and bringing them to life.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I was engaged the entire time I was reading this book, and I often found myself unwilling to put it down. The characters and their desires drove the narrative of the book forward. The book also explored many different themes such as romance, family dynamics, and powerful friendships. There was nothing I disliked about it. It was exceptionally well edited. It had no explicit sexual content, though it did contain some strong language. I believe it would be appropriate for anyone fifteen or older because of this.

I would recommend this book to those who are looking for a book that combines romance and mystery. In addition, the book is short; it is less than two hundred pages. The short length makes it perfect for a few days of reading.
