After placing a past filled with turmoil behind them, Anton and Lenora Boudreaux have finally found the happiness they sought. They have settled into their small home near San Francisco Bay and together with their family and friends, have started a business that in all likelihood will be successful. However, the arrival at port of the ship Willow, brings a great obstacle that will threaten the happiness they have built. Jacob Lowell, captain of the Willow and childhood friend of Lenora, knows too many dark secrets. After Lenora is left alone while Anton sets sail on business, Jacob threatens Lenora with exposing their dark past. His blackmail not only puts her reputation in danger, but her own family as well. Her own decisions will test the trust she and Anton have, and will place her on a path filled with grief, betrayal, and murder.
All Things Returned is a historical romance written by Ute Carbone and set in 19th century San Francisco. In this third installment of the Sweet Lenora Series, we are met once again with an artfully written tale filled with passion and adventure. This time, the suspense rises with page turning conflicts involving murder and dark secrets. The different aspects of this novella that the author has skillfully combined, definitely left me unable to put the book down. I was yet again moved by the characters and their true to life situations, but even more so by the way they have so easily come to life throughout the series.
Following the hardships Anton and Lenora have endured both at sea and having arrived at land, their relationship now is brought to another level. They are finally settling into a family lifestyle with each other and those around them. Their sweet admiration and devotion for each other has endured plenty of storms but now we see something of more importance being tested: their trust. After Lenora is blackmailed and threatened by Jacob, she will learn what the consequences of keeping secrets are. She must make the important decision of whether to trust her husband or not, which will ultimately decide the fate of their relationship. These new aspects of their marriage, I think made their story even more realistic and true to what people might go through in real relationships.
All Things Returned, being the third novella of the series, was filled with even more intrigue than the beginning of the series. We have sailed with Lenora and Anton through rough seas, we have seen illness and death come into their lives, and now we are met with more complex obstacles that will keep you at the edge of your seat. Our protagonists’ adventures have certainly not waned. I greatly enjoyed going through every twist and turn with them and being led to the surprising ending.
The Sweet Lenora Series has quickly become one of my favorite historical romances to follow. It has various attributes that anyone might like. Its sweet romance, thrilling adventure, and page turning plots, combine to make a great read. All Things Returned is a novella I would greatly recommend for these reasons. I found it to be the best book of the Sweet Lenora series so far and I am very hopeful that Anton and Lenora’s adventures will continue. I give All Things Returned 4 out of 4 stars.

Hi! Just wanted to add that the final full length book of this series, Sweet Auralie, comes out with Champagne Books on October 5th. On a side note, I'm pleased to announce that All Things Returned placed first in the Colonial/Civil War/Western category of Hearts Through History's Romancing the Novel contest.
