Brandon Baker wasn’t too happy about working in a Rig. He didn’t fancy the idea of leaving his family and friends and his beautiful bed to go to a big city where he knew no one. But, after thinking for a long time and also experiencing a bad time at his workplace, he immediately accepted the offer, damning the consequences.

After moving to Calgary with his cousin Steve, he went to clubs and parties. At one of the parties he went to, he met Kaitlin, who he instantly fell in love with. She introduced him to another side of life which he accepted. Along the line, their relationship went south, and eventually, Kaitlin ended it because she was in love with another man. In search of a new lease on life and a way to get rid of his depression and suicidal state, Brandon bought a last-minute ticket to a faraway country.

I loved a lot of things about Alternative Energy by Marc Gregory. The author's writing style was excellent and smooth. I also admired his plotline; the way in which the story started was interesting. The author made sure to develop each of his characters. The details about each character were different and well explained throughout this book. This allowed for easy understanding throughout the book. My favorite personality in this book is Brandon. He was ready to leave his comfort zone to better his life. Also, when Brandon loves, he loves completely. I think this was the reason he reacted the way he did after Kaitlin broke up with him in this book. Friendship was another theme this book portrayed. Even after getting a job in another city, Brandon never for once forgot his friends, and they never did him. Anytime he comes back, they always make time to hang out and have a few bottles of beer.

Furthermore, the language of the author was easy to understand as he used simple English terms throughout this book. The book was also professionally edited as I found only few grammatical errors in it.

The only thing I didn’t like about this book was the profane words which the characters used. On almost every page of this book, I came across two to three vulgar words, sometimes even more. I didn’t appreciate this aspect of the book.

I would overlook the negative aspect I stated above and give this book its deserved rating. Therefore, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I didn’t give this book a lower rating because the positive aspects outnumbered the negative. The characters were well developed, and the plotline of this book was interesting. I must mention that this book also contains an abundance of sexual scenes; if this may affect you, then you may wish to skip this one. I recommend this book to lovers of romance fiction and generally to lovers of fictional books.

I'd prefer this book for some leisure time to have. I like the plot of the book's story. Especially, I am drawn to Brandon's social life

Thanks for the review; it shows that it is a good storyline. Since I live stories of love triangles just like that of Brandon, Kaitlin, and the other man; I should pick up the book to read too.

It's a romance book I guess I can downplay the sexual scenes. Thanks for sharing your views about this book with us.

No sympathy for profanity!
It's a fine review and I like the plot. Now, his adventures in the foreign country, are they told in the book as well? It looks that way.

I read mature content from this book and as much as profanity has been cited as a negative aspect, I guess it all depends on a person. The review is highlighting and I love it. This is a book I would love to relax with on a weekend.
