Future Plans by Stacy Lee is an intricately woven web of storylines that keeps you enthralled from the very first page. The story primarily follows Hazel as she navigates life as a single mother, balancing her successful events planning career with spending enough time with her daughter. When tragedy strikes, the decision is made to spend the summer where Hazel grew up to get as much quality time with her daughter Ellie as possible. Will the summer spent in her hometown be the move she needs, or will other unforeseen events force her back to Florida?

I absolutely loved this story, and Lee has an incredibly unique writing style. What appears to be unrelated storylines come together in the most unexpected way. I liked hearing about the history of the Nubble Lighthouse; it made you feel connected to the area while reading the story. I felt that Hazel’s character and development were exceptionally well written. I had a connection to her character right from the beginning because she was a very relatable mother. I was not expecting this book to keep me guessing until almost the end, and I loved how everything came together. Future Plans was an extremely well-written book.

The only negative I have for this novel is that I wish Lee had gone more in-depth with Hazel’s relationship. I loved her personal growth and the growth with her daughter. I just hoped that there was more time spent with Hazel’s romantic relationship. I was intrigued how they got to such an open place within their relationship but it was just stated, not shown how they got to that place.

I rate Future Plans by Stacy Lee a 4 out of 4 stars. This book was not what I was expecting; it was better. The writing style and storyline were incredibly well written. I was not expecting the plot to go in the direction it ended up going, but I absolutely loved it. Stacy Lee delivered a spectacular short novel that I would read again and again.

Future Plans is a short romance novel. It deals with heavy subjects, so I wouldn’t consider it a light-hearted read, and I would recommend this for adults interested in reading a different style of a romance novel. There is a book 1 in this series, but I didn’t feel it necessary to read before this book. Overall, Future Plans was an incredible read that quickly put Lee as a favorite author.
