When a woman with vast knowledge in computer technology suspects that the love of her life is cheating on her, she sets out to find the truth, using a computer. Gimble Spy by Tayma Tameem is a romance novel that follows the story of a couple playing the “emotional pendulum” game until things get a bit complicated. We also see how ‘technology’ became a double-edged sword in their marriage.

Hailie has been happily wedded to Davin for three years. However, things aren’t going as smoothly as before. There has become a lack of communication between them, and Hailie cannot take it anymore. She plans to leave for her parents' home, and she does, leaving behind her MacBook Pro. Hailie hopes that Davin uses the MacBook as he usually does because she has programmed it in a way that she can monitor the online activities of that computer from a remote location. She intends to investigate Davin's fidelity. However, Davin somehow finds out that she is spying on him; she must have made a mistake. Because Davin is now one step ahead of Hailie, he can make her believe whatever he wants. What was the reason for Davin's sudden change? Will the couple grow further apart? What does Davin do with what he discovered, and what would be Hailie’s reactions to his actions?

I have to say that the writer has done a great job with this book. The storyline was interesting, and the author not only entertained her audience, but she also addressed several important topics throughout the story. For example, through this book, readers can learn about the effects of verbal and physical abuse on an individual. There are several aspects of this book that I loved. First, the story had an excellent plot. The sequence of events throughout the tale was not confusing, and I was able to follow the story at all times. Also, the author did a good job with character development. Most characters were sufficiently described, and I connected more with them as a result. One character I connected with was Davin. It was heartbreaking to read about how he was physically abused by his father, and I felt sorry for him.

It was also pleasing to see how realistic the story seemed. Both Davin's and Hailie’s reactions to each situation were what you’d expect from two lovers playing games with their hearts. However, this made the book a bit less suspenseful towards the end because I kind of had an idea of how it was going to end. Nonetheless, that didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the novel. Also, I think it was smart of the author to encompass a synopsis of other works written by her. She included them after the end of the story. That way, readers don’t have to go very far searching for other books written by her.

Another aspect of this book that appealed to me was how the story ended. Readers are sure to be satisfied with the book’s conclusion because all the core questions that arose throughout the book were sufficiently answered. It was also refreshing to see Stan's sense of humor. Stan was Hailie’s father in the book. I had some good laughs while I read through some scenes in which he appeared. No matter how dire the situation seemed, I was always looking forward to what he had to say because I was almost certain that I would have a good laugh, and I wasn’t disappointed. I think humor is important because it kind of keeps the reader refreshed, especially for a 492-page book like this one.

Additionally, I was pleased that this novel didn’t contain any errors. As a result, I can confidently say that the text is professionally edited. I can’t think of anything there is to loathe about Gimble Spy, and I rate it a perfect 4 out of 4 stars. If you are as keen on romance novels as I am, this book is for you; I highly recommend it. However, there are some non-borderline profane words used within the text. Because of this, the book may not be suitable for readers under 13. Also, sensitive readers that are affected by profanity may want to sit this one out.
