Love stories develop unexpectedly and take shape in various ways. Inspired by real love letters, E. L. Neve created Looking Glass Friends, a one of a kind love story, one that is truly unique from any other romance I have read. This story is about love, courage, honesty, and discovering happiness no matter how disruptive the path of life might be.

In the beginning of the story, Ellie frequented a bakery. She suddenly felt compelled to share her favorite book with an employee by the name of Neil. Ellie thought Neil probably wouldn’t read the lengthy gift, but to her surprise, he did. Neil was ready to say goodbye to the world, and the book was just what he needed to survive.

Neil found a way to thank Ellie for the life changing gift. Ellie’s reply included her contact information. Already bound to another in a loveless marriage, Neil and Ellie were not searching for love, they desired friendship. But from that day, their souls merged into one. The need for one another was clear. The connection they had with one another was nothing they had ever felt. They couldn’t deny they were soul mates. As much as Ellie didn’t want to disrupt her five-year-old's life, she knew that denying her own happiness and true love would not only destroy her, but would not benefit her son. Together, Neil and Ellie found the courage to change their lives, even though, Ellie’s husband, Jake, and Neil’s wife, Fay, fought to keep their marriages alive.

With it’s mildly written tone, this remarkable love story gently touches the heart of the reader. There are a few scenes that get a little heated, although the language is still mild. One scene involves Neil in the first chapter of the story. The second scene involves a sexual encounter, “He spread her thighs, kissed his way up her legs until she moaned in rapture.” And the third scene involves Ellie and her husband, Jake while they were out-of-town.
With exquisite descriptions such as, “And between him and the people, mantra rays were circling like giant kites in a liquid sky.” I give this novel a 4 out of 4 stars. I would absolutely recommend and encourage anyone who wants to experience pure, true love to dive into this novel. However, I would not recommend rushing through it because it’s a story that deserves contemplation and appreciation.
