J.K. Rowling. She is so brilliant. It's like she went to Hogwarts herself.

John Sandford. I love the detail he gives in the 'Prey' series. Good, quick reads!

My all time favorite author has to be Tolkien. I mean the man was a genius. But William Somerset Maugham was a literary giant and it was "Of Human Bondage" that lit the unquenchable fire within me that drove me to read everything I could get my hands on. Today I am a huge fan of many including Ann Rice and Cassandra Claire. So if I am to be honest, my favorite author is the one I am hooked on at the moment in time.

I have a difficult time answering this question, lol, as I enjoy quite a few. My top favorites, in no particular order are: Grisham, Baldacci, Koontz, Kathy Reichs... see what I mean!? So many!

Though I have many ranging from different genres, I would have to pick John Irving to be my favorite author. His work with character detail is almost as excruciating as it is brilliant, but it almost feels like a part of me is gone after I close any of his books because I don't get to spend time with those characters any longer.
I've been working my way through most of his novels, having most recently started Until I Find You, but I haven't completed it yet. Obviously, The World According to Garp and A Prayer for Owen Meany are must-reads if you haven't had the chance yet!

For real, an alumnus. O.W.L (Ordinary Wizarding Level) was an inspired touch, even the birds.

My favorite author is harper lee.
because of her book To kill a mocking bird. It was narrated by a small girl due to which it kept me intrigued and interested throughout the book.

Margerate Mitchell: because of writing Gone with the wind. Her way of dealing the love triangle was superb and universal. Scarlett o' Hara's character and hamartia was amazing to read though i don't opt for romance novel but this one was a superb work in this genre by her.
W. Shakespeare: for his tragic plays like Macbeth and Hamlet. His use of language and Character flaw as Hamartia deserve huge applause indeed.
Sidny Sheldon: for writing and portraying strong females as his protagonists and his plot twists were amazing to read.

It's such a tough question for me to answer! One of my favorite authors is Susan Hill. She writes such incredible gothic horror novels that are creepy and atmospheric.

Dan Brown. I particularly like the way he includes real-life locations, art, buildings statues etc and blurs them with well known conspiracy theories and his plots

The way she draws you into the characters; the sense of of their personal lives. How their culture forms them. The feelings they feel; you feel them.
