I love a lot of them! I generally respect anyone that can write something to interest others.
I think Shakespeare's works never go out of style though. That's a big deal .
And recently, Angela Marson's works have captivated me. Especially the D.I Kim Stone series. I absolutely love them!

I would name John Grisham my favorite author. He's a master of legal thrillers, to me at least. He sure knows how to develop characters and ideas, which I find very much relatable to reality. But I won't limit it to just one author, there's Gillian Flynn, and Agatha Christie. They always write suspense-filled stories. Most of their books I have read, are on paperbacks.

I absolutely love Sophie Kinsella. Her books are always laugh-out-loud funny and her female leads are very relatable.

My favorite authors are George Orwell and Rainbow Rowell.
I really love the way Orwell is able to create worlds that are simultaneously realistic and unrealistic. They feel relevant and I really enjoy his world building.
I love Rowell’s world building as well, in a very different way. Carry On feels magical and unique and I love the representation she so easily weaves in.

I like western/southern novels, and I like "difficult" (read: literary) novels. My favorite author, Cormac McCarthy, fits both those criteria.

Close runners-up include William Faulkner, Donald Ray Pollack, Flannery O'Connor, Stephen King, Don Delillo, Thomas Pynchon, John Irving, Jonathan Franzen, David Mitchell, Dave Eggers, and Jonathan Safran Foer.

Frankly, I'm surprised no one here seems to share my tastes; I thought they were mainstream, seeing as almost all those are bestselling novelists. King is a common touchpoint, though, so I guess I'm not that weird! Oh, and I love J.K. Rowling, too, although I probably would have never read her novels if their movies adaptations hadn't taken off.

Nfbuckeye, Don't know if you'll see all this time later; not sure how that works, being new and all; but I just wanted to throw my vote behind them fellers, too. Seems we share a similar taste in literature. In fact, I'm particularly enjoying Franzen right now, his Crossroads being the best I've read this year.

My favourite author is Albert Camus!I have read absolutely everything by him, his novels, essays, theatre, correspondance, notebooks, everything. In his writings he constantly talks about what it means to be human, its challenges but also its great rewards and how human beings should help each other during their journey on planet Earth. It is no surprise that he won the Nobel Prize for his wonderful books.

I used to love Tess Gerritsen and all of her thrillers with a lot of medical details.
Now Ruta Sepetys is one of my favorites, I wish she had more books. Can't wait to read the new one!

I could not choose between just one author. My two favorites would have to be Terri Blackstock, for her amazing drama stories, and Kwame Alexander, for his poetic style of writing novels.

Paulo Coelho

Because his English is very easy to understand. Almost all of the books he has written, the lesson can be applied in real life
