Oh yeah. This was the first book of his I read and I struggled to finish it! I've heard such good things I thought I was the only one. I re-read it last year to see if it was any better. Some scenes were better than I remembered but overall I still wasn't thrilledandicakes9 wrote:I've read several Stephen King books and loved them, but I'm having a hard time getting into The Shining. I'm on page 300 of 450 so I'm quite a ways into it, but still can't seem to like it although lots of people do. Did anybody else have a hard time getting into it?

Have you seen the movie? Could that had an effect on your opinion? I have not read the Shining but I understand Kubrick changed it quite a bitTaylor Razzani wrote:Oh yeah. I only watched it after I read the book the first time. At one point I wondered if it felt extremely long and boring to mirror the tedious life the characters were being affected byrockandroll wrote:Have you seen the movie? I saw the movie 10 years ago and I don't remember it so no it didn't change my view. Since I know Stephen King was not a fan of the movie, I decided to read it first then watch.

I didn't have a hard time getting into it. I did really enjoy it, even though there were some parts of the story I wasn't expecting. There was a newer book by Stephen King I was not a fan of, Revival. It didn't seem all that supernatural, and wasn't really scary or thrilling to me.andicakes9 wrote:I've read several Stephen King books and loved them, but I'm having a hard time getting into The Shining.
