Under-estimated crime-writers

Post by Lincolnshirelass »

I'm a fan of a great many crime writers going back to the so-called golden age and right up to date, but think a couple of writers are very under-rated - oddly enough, they're both called Celia - Celia Dale and Celia Fremlin. They wrote mainly in the 60s/70s and are brilliant at the quiet tensions and simmering nastiness behind ordinary and respectable life. Margaret Yorke also worth mentioning - oh, and did you know that before she became the fantastically (and deservedly) popular children's writer she is, Jacqueline Wilson wrote a few very creepy and readable adult crime novels.
