Although I agree with your comment about Dean Koontz's books started off with a faster pace, I believe that Stephen King's books are on a level all by themselves. It amazes be how King is able to create some of the weirdest and scariest concept to create books. I love it!

I prefer Dean Koontz. Somehow, his writing is more appealing to me than the writing of Stephen King. King has a great imagination but his writing style is very poor which annoys me big time.

I much prefer Stephen King over Dean Koontz. Every King book I read I truly enjoyed, but I cannot say the same about Koontz. Lots of his work in fact does not appeal to me, although some of his books were excellent, I must admit.

Dean Koontz is my favorite author. His characters are well-rounded and amazingly complex. I love his challenging vocabulary and intricate plots. King has many of these characteristics as well but he is a little too dark and sometimes gruesome for me. I like the hope portrayed in Koontz's work.

This is a tough one. Both have strong books in their corners. Intensity (Koontz) is one of the most...well...intense books I’ve ever read. However The Stand (King) is one of my favorite books of all time.
The win has to go to King, however, because one of his most often overlooked novels has held true as my overall favorite book for more than 20 years. Eyes of the Dragon.

I agree that I like King's books! Although I'm not a huge fan of pitting authors against each other. Even when authors write in the same genre, they tend to have very different styles and it's hard and kind of seems unfair to compare.

Koontz for sure! He is such a great storyteller and every scene totally comes alive for me! I enjoy reading King's books as well; they are easy to read and are definitely entertaining but there's always a feeling at the end like something was missing. He is just not as dynamic of a writer, in my opinion.

I liked more books written by Stephen King. But Koontz is a very good author as well.

Stephen King, definitely, because he points out the insanity that lurks just at the edge of everyday life. Dean Koontz writes some good stories--The Watcher was the first and best. The Odd Thomas series is also really good.

I have really enjoyed several of Koontz books, but a few were hard to read or a bit slow for me. Stephen King is definitely my preferred author (and my second favorite in general!), in fact he has been my inspiration for my own writing, especially my short horror stories. But I do love them both!

It is a while since I read Stephen King's books but the ones I did read, I loved them. I am more in touch with Dean Koontz's books because I read several recently. The two authors are great in different ways.

Koontz for me. Stephen King is incredible but too gory and gross for my taste -- maybe his target audience is men. It seems to me that Koontz has gone through stages: commentary on society in his themes, then horror (still about society though), then a spiritual quest, and now back to suspense as commentary. His latest books The Silent Corner and The Whispering Room strike me as written by a man looking back over the changes in his lifetime in horror.

Koontz undoubtedly for his jaw dropping fast paced thrillers.Koontz has a great storyline and once you start reading its maelstrom of twists and turns that needs urgency to finish it till the last page.
