Creepiest book I ever read was Stephen King's "It". I've read several Dean Koontz books that I enjoyed more but none that kept me up at night like that one did.

I love Stephen King's stories, but I agree that he puts too much information in his books and they end up dragging. I like Dean Koontz a lot also, and for the same reason...his books are usually faster paced.

I actually no longer read Stephen King books unless I go back to re-read something from long ago. One exception is the books he writes with Peter Straub. They do tend to drag a bit, but the stories are so good that I have to read them anyway!

Dean Koontz! His books are much more thrilling and well-written in my opinion. Odd Thomas is my number one favourite.

Dean Koontz always! He's faster paced and much creepier. That said, he can't end a book well for anything. It always has his feeling of "oh crap! I'm coming up on my page limit, I better sum this up real quick!" Until the last 40 pages or so, I love his books! King is...OK.

Hmm is there really a comparison though? I feel like their styles are so different but although I like Koontz, Stephen King I’ll say Stephen King hands down for me.

Oh, Stephen King no contest. While I do like some of Koontz's work, his books are always hit or miss. With King, I know I'm getting a good novel. I agree that he draws some things out, I sometimes have to take a break with his books because of this. However, in the end I feel like King has always told me the whole story & I'm right there with the character. His descriptions are so well done that I can mentally picture even some of the craziest things.

Oddly I own books by both but I have not read them yet. The only Stephen King I own is Needful Things. The Dean Koontz books I really want to read are the odd Thomas ones.

Stephen King for me, no question. Dean Koontz's books never stay with me after I finish them, but I think about King's often and enjoy following his recurring characters from novel to novel; I had fun awhile back finding and reading or rereading through all the Castle Rock stories. (Now that I think of it, maybe all the Derry stories should be next.)

I say both. I have both their books and I am having a hard time choosing.

I prefer Dean Koontz. There is something a little too creepy in those King novels for my taste, although I think King may have a bigger following.

I like the Odd Thomas books by Dean Koontz, but King has always been my favorite. His characters are realistic and interesting. Dr. Sleep is my newer favorite written by King.

King is my favorite author and has written my favorite book (IT), so I am biased saying I like him better than Koontz. I'm not saying Koontz is bad because I still love some of his stuff, but he has more misses for me than King does.

Strangers was my first Koontz book and I still love that book. I also really like Fear Nothing and Seize the Night (come on Dean, write the third).
