There are so many good authors and different genres out there. I personally like the crime, mystery, and thriller genre. My favorite authors in that genre include John Grisham, Richard North Patterson, Sue Grafton, Sydney Sheldon, Dick Francis, Michael Crichton, Scott Turow, Dennis Lehane, John Stanford, Lee Child, Robin Cook, James Lee Burke, Dan Brown and Perri O'Shaughnessy. I eagerly await their new books (though some like Sydney Sheldon and Michael Crichton have passed on) and diligently hunt in second-hand bookstores for the old ones. Though I have e-books, I still prefer "real" books. I love their smell I guess haha.

I constantly recommend Terry Pratchett, I think he is a phenomenal writer. As for a specific book though I always recommend American Gods by Neil Gaiman. If you havent read it - do it!

Colleen Hoover is one of my all time favorite authors. After reading her first book, Slammed, I became obsessed with her and always talked about her to my friends. Since 2012, I have been following her and reading all her books. They are all good! :)

Just reading through these previous posts before mine, there are so many good authors being recommended. There are even some I've forgotten about that I like so much. For so time now though, I've been diving into the classics and find myself recommending Charles Dickens, Elizabeth Gaskell, and JRR Tolkien.

Brent Weeks and his Night Angel Trilogy

If you're into assassins, magic, demons, and feudal warfare then this is an excellent choice. It is very easy to read through, and the plot and characters progress quickly. This series grabs your attention early on, and keeps it through to the end.

If you're in for a something more expansive and having less of a young adult writing feel to it, his Black Prism series is a great choice. Be warned though "The Black Prism" is a fairly challenging, sometimes dry work of art. If you enjoyed the writing style of Frank Herbert then this series shouldn't be too intimidating.

Horror novelist Richard Laymon, whose books are always filled with sex and gore. Fun.

It changes a bit each year as I discover new authors whose work I enjoy. This year, I'd recommend Margaret Atwood, Iris Murdoch, P.D. James and Jane Steen, among those I can remember at the moment.

I always recommend Lauren Oliver. Her writing style and ability to create such compelling characters is just breathtaking. My first book of hers was Delirium. I then read Before I Fall, The Delirium series and basically all of her books besides Vanishing Girls. I just adore her writing, she just takes my breath away with each word. :tiphat:
