On a rainy day I want to pull out a book by a favourite author - I have many. Usually I save one of my favourites for a special time - like Karen Kingsbury. I will pull out one of them when it is one of those days that you want to curl up by the fire and read all day.

I agree that Jane Austen is good for a rainy day, but I think I could read just about anything on a rainy day. I love nothing more on a rainy day than to curl up with a good book on a rainy day. However, I think it is more about the quality of the book in my hand not necessarily who wrote it.

I don't have any good authors for a rainy day. But Robert Frost's poetry is perfect for fall/winter rainy/snowy weather to read while inside by a fire or curled in a cozy blanket.

Nicholas Sparks, Rachel Ann Nunes, and Julie Wright are three of my favorites.

Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway is a great rainy day read. I would also suggest Bram Stoker's Dracula. While Woolf's novel is heavy, it fits perfectly with the rainy day emotions, and Stoker's eerie and dark novel is fitting with the dark and rainy days.

I believe that the best authors for a rainy day would be J.K. Rowling! I know, everyone is over harry potter but when you read a book in a different setting or environment, it changes everything about the way you read the book. 8)
I've read all the harry potters books 3 times. But the difference for me was i read the books randomly at school and they were great but when i read them in my room on a rainy day or in a week when it rained, it was magical. It was like i was in the book right beside them on their dangerous adventures.

I'd pick Kristin Hannah. I haven't read all of her works (so far just Summer Island and the Magic Hour). The books are enjoyable and easy to get through; there's just something so enchantingly charming about her style.

Nancy Mitford is the pleasantest author I can think of. You cannot read her prose without imagining it being narrated by a matronly English woman with a humble British accent. She draws you in as though she were reading a bedtime story, and then she proceeds to chat with you about calming and pleasurable enjoyments. "Love in a Cold Climate" is I think her most famous

Rainy days are slow days for me. I love it when water pours in the streets and down my windows. I would read something slow and classic even if I've read it before. Les Miserables (the 1200 pages one), anything Jane Austen, and novels about Kings and Queens and Princesses!

Those are my favorite historical fiction days. Anything from Philippa Gregory or Jean Plaidy will be perfect.

All of them? I tend to like Ted Dekker for a rainy day, he is suspenseful thriller with Christian elements. I also enjoy Suzanna Linton, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Gena Showalter, hmm and several others. I just grab a book that tickles my fancy and curl up on the couch with a cup of tea and a cat.

Personally, as soon as I read "best authors for a rainy day" my mind immediately jumped to Agatha Christie. I just love curly up with one of her great mystery novels. However Lemony Snicket is a fantastic author as well. Although I read his books when I was younger his "Series of Unfortunate Events" 14 book series (I think), were my absolute favorite books to read when I was little and he is still my favorite author today. :)
