I would to say my favourite childrens author is E Nesbit. The stories I read as a child really inspired my imagination and encouraged my thirst for reading that is still unsatiated to this day :-)

As I was discussing in a different thread, Roald Dahl is my favorite for sure

My favorite would have to be Roald Dahl. I have read many of his stories and had them read to me as a child. Dirty Beasts was a favorite, warped and twisted as it is. But that is Dahl. He was not afraid to punish the children who had it coming, or to scare his reader either. He was a one of a kind.

Brian Jacques! Even as an adult, I still wish I could write prose half as well as he did.

Definitely Enid Blyton. I find most of her stories pretty comical, especially those that contain many short stories compiled all together into one book! They kind of teach young children morals and values, and they are so creative as well.

Roald Dahl is another one. His stories are really 'out-of-the-box', about chocolate factories, giant peaches, witches... Damn, imagine if there was a GIANT chocolate factory near your house.

I enjoyed reading 'A Series of Unfortunate Events' when i was growing up. I think Lemony Snicket is a great storyteller for kids.

For me, my favorite children's author is Enid Blyton. Her books have really been successful in connecting with me as a child and I still love going back and reading her books. I love adventure stories and her book mostly consisted of it. Although I have also always admired Harper Lee's To Kill A Mocking Bird as a kid.

My favorites are oldies but goodies: L.M. Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables series) and Laura Ingalls Wilder (The Little House series).

For me is Rick Riordan, I have read all of the Percy Jackson series and the Carter Kane one. I will read also the Magnus Chase series. It's just that it never disappoints, the mythology and the story lines are incredible. Highly recommended!

Growing up I really enjoyed Sharon Creech's novels for children. They aren't little kids books, maybe more for kids aged 7-12. These were great books to read on my own; they dealt a lot with family issues and the idea of finding ones self. My favorites by Creech are "Walk Two Moons" and "Bloomability."

I love reading Roald Dahl's books! He has such a great sense of humor and he understands the mind of the creative child in such an awesome way. He is very good at pulling the most random elements into his stories and it ends up improving them. I actually haven't read all his books, but I would love to.

I'm not sure he counts as a children's author, but I had tons of James Harriet's illustrated books growing up and they were beautiful. I loved animals as a kid (and still do!), so reading about them really helped spur my love for reading. I can remember my grandmother making me read them aloud to practice.
