That's a hard question, but if I had to pick just one, it would be Margaret Attwood. Her descriptions are so beautiful and she is so versatile.
This post was brought to you by the word "specifically".

Used to be just Danielle Steel. Now I also love James Patterson. I got into reading his books when I read the Witch and Wizard series. Since then I have read quite a few of his other works including the NYPD Red series, although I have not yet read 3 and now 4 is out!

Well I have way more than just one favorite author. I can think of Harlan Coben, Danielle Steel and Nicky Charles as my all time favorite authors.

There are so very many favorites with different genres but the one that stands out for me is James Hadley Chase. I have read a lot of his books and every one of them is different and very intriguing. Danielle Steele is also one of the greatest authors I know followed by Jane Austen and LM Montgomery

There are many great authors out there but one of the great novelists and one of my favorites is Haruki Murakami. I love his statement in Norweigan Wood:
"If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking."

He is very deep yet personal. He tells stories that reach the heart. Anyone here who loves this Japanese author? Truly one of the best!

My favorite author is in fact an author duo, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, who wrote the popular Pendergast thriller series. There is nothing quite like this series out there, and nothing quite like these two authors working together.

Chinua Achebe stands out, for me, as one author who was in close touch with his roots and creatively interpreted the signs of his time into his fictional works. Things Fall Apart and No Longer at Ease are windows through which a foreigner could peer into those characteristics that make the Nigerian of Igbo-Biafran descent tick.

Achebe constructively criticises the Nigerian social and political systems and then points to a clear pragmatic paradigm as remedy. Those conversant with his works will tell that some of those deep-seated issues threatening the very foundations of Nigeria's sovereign existence currently, had been raised by him decades ago. Unfortunately, they remain the bane of the country even today.

It changes often. Currently, my favourite authors would be Jim Butcher and Brandon Sanderson.

Among the older authors, my favourite is Alexandre Dumas.
