The "Please tell your friends" Head Message

The fact is the more members we get here, the better. I am however concerned that this message (you know, the one right under the Forum Menu) sounds needy and desperate and might give out a whole different message, like "we're dying and need a lot of member quick!".

I don't have access to the numbers, I don't know if it's actually responsible for the recent rise of members, it's just how I feel. What I would recommend instead is to automatically send a welcoming Private Message where you could include this call to action.

And while we're at the Private Messages, I believe there already is something automatic in place, but I remember being unable to read it until I reach a certain number of posts - or it wasn't here?

Now that you mentioned it, the banner look desperate. But I do not know if it's bad or good. I rarely read the upper post. And about the suggestion of automatic post, I doubt if a newbie would ever read it.
