Exciting Changes!

So that we can provide faster and better support, this forum (the "Public Suggestion Box") has been retired. Instead, please send any suggestions you have to us using the official website contact form.

This allows us to streamline our support system so that we can get to your message much faster. Instead of our support staff having to check three different places (support forum, suggestion box, and contact form messages), they know can respond to all message through one method, with that one method being the official website contact form.

Exciting Changes!

Post by Scott »

Hi, All!

Earlier this week, I drastically updated multiple aspects of software for both the server and the website.

This also required updating the look and feel of the website a bit. This was in part because some of the new changes will make the website even more mobile friendly. More adjustments to the look and feel of the website will come, but first I want to iron out any kinks with the actual software.

The tagging system has changed slightly. If you type the @ symbol now and start writing a name, that should trigger a popup box to appear to give you options of who to tag which you can then click to tag which will cause the BBcode to tag the member to be inserted automatically. However, the BBcode is required, so if you don't get the option to click to add it or don't use it but just write the @ symbol and the person's name, it won't work. Unfortunately, the old @mods and @bsmods will not tag those groups. However, I will hopefully be able to re-program the ability to tag all the moderators at once.

The notification system with both the tagging and many other notifications has been greatly improved. You can now get many notifications in one spot in the navigation bar on the forums. Right now, that only shows on the forums part of the website, but soon I will get it to display sitewide.

Ultimately, I expect this upgrade to be a huge improvement. However, it kind of reminds me of moving to a bigger and better house. At first, you are in the new house with a bunch of boxes and a big mess. It will take some time to iron out all the details and get all the old features up and running, to unpack so to speak. In time, we will end up not only with everything running very smoothly again but running much better and with even more features and even more potential to add yet more features.

Thank you,
Scott

Greetings Scott,

I used to do website development so I know all about "kinks" and I think you've done a great job thus far getting things updated with minimum downtime and inconvenience to your patrons. I know I speak for many when I say we are grateful for this truly excellent website and your commitment to it and to your subscribers. Everything seems to be working fine on my end at this time. Keep up the good work, and thanks!

EDITED TO ADD: I think Virgil would be proud of you *LOL*

The new features are better. Is there a change log for all the changes?

The changes are very welcome. I do still have some unpacking to do at my end, though. Dinosaurs like me take a while LOL.

Thanks, Scott, for this wonderful site and your hard work and support for all of us.

The changes seem to be working out great. I like the notifications idea. It takes me a while to get used to change, but I’ll eventually get the hang of all the new features. Thank you for working so hard!

I agree with @Scott that the site is now more mobile friendly. I especially like the background color and the size of the font.
