BOTD Subscription Message - Emails Have Bounced

Post by bookowlie »

When I came to the site this afternoon, there is a message that my emails have bounced and my Book of the Day subscription has been disabled. I also haven't gotten the verification email that the message said was sent. I have belonged to the BOTD since it started and never had this problem before. I am pretty frustrated because, now that there is a 2nd gift card being given away, I am only about 3 members from the top. I also entered every day so I thought I would be eligible for the big giveaway coming up soon.

It is most likely a glitch. I will tag @"Scott" for you.

Thanks Gali. Actually, I also sent Scott a PM. I posted the issue here since I was curious if other members experienced the same problem.

@bookowlie Have you been getting the daily Book of the Day emails?

I had been getting them everyday until yesterday. Also, in the past two or three days, I haven't received email alerts about new PM's or new posts for topics I previously commented on.

The emails are being blocked by AOL. This appears to be an intermittent issue with your email address, in that it has occurred before. Thus, it may resolve itself in a bit of time. Though, then it will also re-occur in time. You will need to contact AOL unfortunately to ask why they are not delivering emails sent to you that you want to get without even putting them in a junk/spam folder.

Only certain email providers have this habit of occasionally blocking email with no notice to the recipient and no option for the receipt to recover the email from a junk/spam folder. It seems like a terrible way to handle the situation in my opinion. There's little harm in putting the email into a junk folder, but quite a bit of harm in having someone miss emails they wanted to get. I don't know why AOL would do that to their own customers.

Well, I just received an email alerting me to a new PM, so maybe things are starting to look up. In the meantime, will I lose all of my carryover entries once the situation has been resolved? I feel a little frustrated since I haven't won any of the daily giveaways in the past several months and my carryover entries were near the top of the list.

The problem seems to be resolved. I just received the verification email and have successfully been re-subscribed to the BOTD. It's true that there has been an intermittent issue with the OBC emails in the past. However, up until this latest issue, I haven't had the problem in a long time. Anyway, the good news is my carryover entries are still there. :)

@bookowlie It sounds like everything is all set. Let me know. I'm sorry for the trouble.

Do all of my carryover points for BOTD giveaway get deleted if I miss a day checking in to the giveaway page?

Yes. You have to enter daily for them to continue building.

Hmmm...that hardly seems fair...after all, life happens, and I don't think we should be penalized for missing one day, since we came to the site all the other days?!? I'm caring for my parents 24/7 both who have Alzheimer's disease & I can't always get online each day. Guess that's one part of OBC that's not gonna work for me! :(

As I don't really read ebooks, I don't enter when downloading the book is required. Mostly because it isn't feasible for me. I've yet to win one, but it doesn't hurt to try!

On one hand, I'd like there to be a way to keep my entries, or to at least loose only a percentage, but I understand why it is the way it is.

Well, I don't think I understand "why it is the way it is"! Why is that? Maybe the "powers that be" could re-assess this policy?? Thanks for your response. :)
PS...It certainly doesn't encourage me to go to the site each day, or comment on the review (which I assume is the point of the giveaway), when I know many of my points will just be taken away in a few days.
