Spelling/grammatical mistakes

Post by Kdonegan91 »

I just finished reading the book I chose to review. While I enjoyed the book, there were at least a dozen spelling mistakes. I lost count of the amount of grammatical errors. So what do I do now? I can't give it a 4/4 review score if its written incorrectly. Do I still write a review?

Thank you for asking that question, and that is definitely something I would like to know for any future review that I hope to complete in the future.

You can and should write the review. Just don't give it 4 stars and rate it accordingly.

I agree with Gali. You should write the review and base the rating on several factors, including the errors. If a book has a dozen errors, I think it doesn't deserve 4 stars. I think you can discuss what you liked and/or didn't like about the book, and also mention that there were errors.

There is a grammatical error on the BOTD ("Justice") free raffle page ("free sample" section). It says: "To thank the author, please sample a few pages of THEIR book for free." I believe it should say "HIS"! Not to be picky, but we readers like to be grammatically correct! :)

Perhaps it doesn't matter...but the same mistake is showing up today in the same place!

Ok, great observation right there. But I believe that statement is correct because one cannot exactly determine the gender of an author in an auto generated message. It actually applies to other areas of grammar when the subject of the sentence can either be male or female so to avoid gender misappropriation, you also use a general pronoun that could go either way.

On re-thinking this comment, I agree that the correct pronoun should include both genders, "his/her" or "his or her", not just "his". But, although it is gender inclusive, using the plural pronoun "their", I don't believe is correct, when referring to the singular word "author". That's what I meant. Geez...English is such a confusing language, isn't it? :)
PS...Since the post is still up each day using "their", I guess people think it's really no big deal!
