Get Your Own Book Blog - Free

Post by Scott »

As a thank you to our members, we're offering the following benefit to anyone with at least 25 posts:

You can get a free blog/website on a subdomain of onlinebookclub.org (e.g. yourblog.onlinebookclub.org). You get FTP access to the subdomain and 1 MYSQL database, preinstalled with Wordpress blogging software.

You have complete control over the content and display of your website. You can remove Wordpress (or ask that we don't install it) if you want to use different blogging software or want to do something altogether different with your subdomain. (We preinstall Wordpress, because it's user-friendly and doesn't require technical expertise to use or customize.) There are many wordpress themes to choose from, or you can make your own.

We don't put any advertisements or such on your blog, but you can put your own advertisements if you want.

Please note the following restrictions:
1) No excessive profanity.
2) No facilitation or promotion of hateful, illegal, or violent activities.
3) No pornography.

Currently, all subdomains are available except:
blog
blogs
depot
shop
store
forum
forums

I will post here as any more are taken.

You can get technical support here.

If you want a blog (make sure you have 25 posts), just ask for one here or by PMing me. Include the subdomain you want.

Any questions?

Knightss and awelker both started blogs. I assume they don't mind me posting the links:

Sounds a great idea.
I think anything promotes language, writing, reading, opinions, thoughts is an excellent thing and blogs do this especially if they are good.

The links aren't working...

When I go to http://knightss.onlinebookclub.org/ it gives me this:
Warning: require_once(/home/scotthug/public_html/knightss/wp-settings.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/scotthug/public_html/knightss/wp-config.php on line 20

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/scotthug/public_html/knightss/wp-settings.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/scotthug/public_html/knightss/wp-config.php on line 20
And when I go to http://awelker.onlinebookclub.org/ it gives me this:
WordPress
Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at mysqlhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.

* Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
* Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
* Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you're unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.
Just wanted to point that out.

I fixed them so that they are both readable. Please notify me of any other errors.

I set up a blog.

I'm still playing around with it, so don't be alarmed if I haven't done much with it  .
