But that's could make things harder to peruse....I enjoy looking at other members shelves; mostly their 3 and 4 star shelves. Maybe this is what Gravy is wanting...

More or less what I mean where series are concerned is this...TLGabelman wrote:Maybe each member can have an option to group their shelves (ie author, genre, rating, and so forth)

When I shelve a series...I shelve it #1, #2, #3 and so on.
Currently series are shelved alphabetically...
The only way I can think to please everyone...is if everyone could choose a default to view shelves by, both their own...and others. Probably not realistic
Just as happy with my shelves though

What I like is when the series name and number is put as the subtitle of the book.Graverobber wrote:Personally, I'd be happy if I could list a whole series as one entry, I don't know that others would agree though.Scott wrote:You mean on your own shelves?
I can definately group them by author. The easiest way would be to simply sort them by author name.
However, did you want to somehow supercede the current process of splitting them up by rating and/or shelf? Or do you just want books by the same author grouped together if they happen to be on the same rating/shelf?

Actually, I just checked the code to make the change and I noticed that it should already be sorted by author name after shelf/rating. So books by the same author should be listed consecutively if they are either rated the same or on the same shelf besides previously read.
I would love to be able to have them in series order. I know how difficult it can be to find the correct order for a series when I'm just starting it...much less just knowing which book is first.

Two problems though...
Not everyone will do this.
And I've got series listed already.
Is there a way I could edit existing submissions without having to resubmit and report the original?

Also still wondering about a possible field for pen-names?

I am brainstorming some ideas for adding some sophistication to the database of authors.
With some slight improvements not only could we keep track of different aliases for an author, but also I could add a favorite authors section on a member's shelf.

Also @Scott
When reporting a book...
What reason should I choose if the book is just a double?

Update: I have adjusted the 'custom sort' page so that, when one clicks to sort by author name or book title, one is presented with a list of letters. The way it was before I felt was relatively useless unless the author or title happened to start with an A. When someone selects to sort by author or title, I also have tossed in the search box too because that seems like a situation in which one might find the search box more useful. Take a look and let me know what you think.
