Frustration

(Formerly the "Support, Feedback and Forum Announcements" forum.)
Please help us make Online Book Club even better! Please post suggestions, feedback and ideas for new features. Wild brainstorming and potentially 'crazy ideas' are super-strongly encouraged! :)

For new members (or old members who run into an issue), please make a post in this forum asking any questions you have about using the site and how it works that are not answered in the FAQ. Not only are we happy help you, but also we can use your feedback to make the site better for tomorrow's new member! A lot of the instructions throughout the site and answers in the FAQ are there because someone else pointed out that it wasn't clear before.

Frustration

Post by lorriejnelson » 08 May 2019, 20:10

I am a voracious reader, so I was happy to find a way to earn money doing what I already enjoy. Making some small money reviewing books is a dream job for me and fits nicely with my teaching career.

My frustration comes from your website, it is difficult to navigate. Yes, I read all the instructions, I read everything.

*I cannot find a way to include more than one genre at a time. I read from several genres and base my next book on what sounds intriguing from the synopsis. I have commented on both of the BOTD since I joined but non-fiction is not my forte.

*Each page of the website has dozens of ads that distract from the purpose of this Book Club.

* I know that social media drives sales in this day and age, I am fine with that. Could you make a simple way to let me copy what I wrote in the review, get to the social media page, and tweak what I want to say in the new forum?

* I like that you have daily giveaways but you are asking me to jump through many hoops, some of which I don't care about. (If I don't like non-fiction I don't want to win a free copy of that book.)

* Lastly, this should have been posted as a private email but you do not offer a convenient way to do that. Your links to contact you go around in circles, always sending me back to the FAQs and Policies pages, I READ THEM, it's what I do, I read everything.

I'm not a web designer but I know there are many more user-friendly formats for your club. Please, work on this.

Sincerely,
Lorrie Nelson

Hello and welcome!

I'm going to try to tackle this by point. :tiphat:
*I cannot find a way to include more than one genre at a time. I read from several genres and base my next book on what sounds intriguing from the synopsis. I have commented on both of the BOTD since I joined but non-fiction is not my forte.
Could you explain what you mean?
The BOTD is just one book a day, meaning there is no option for setting a genre.
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding?
Anyway, the BOTD will change genre more often than not.

*Each page of the website has dozens of ads that distract from the purpose of this Book Club.
I just checked and saw only two adds (one at the top of the page, and one at the bottom). Perhaps you are mistaking some of the forum links for adds?
At most I've found maybe four or five adds, but never dozens.
So again, I'm a little lost.

* I know that social media drives sales in this day and age, I am fine with that. Could you make a simple way to let me copy what I wrote in the review, get to the social media page, and tweak what I want to say in the new forum?
You aren't supposed to post your review anywhere else, either as a whole, or partially.

From the Review Team guidelines:
  • The review is exclusive to OnlineBookClub.org, meaning you cannot post it on another website.
There are buttons below the cover on your review specifically for sharing your review via social media.

* I like that you have daily giveaways but you are asking me to jump through many hoops, some of which I don't care about. (If I don't like non-fiction I don't want to win a free copy of that book.)
The daily giveaways are for Amazon gift cards, not books. They have never been for the book.
As for hoops, the commenting and other things are for extra entries. You don't have to do any of those extra entries, if you don't want to. You can still get one or two entries a day just by doing the base entry and maybe entering the bonus code.

* Lastly, this should have been posted as a private email but you do not offer a convenient way to do that. Your links to contact you go around in circles, always sending me back to the FAQs and Policies pages, I READ THEM, it's what I do, I read everything.
The Contact Form offers a way to contact the mods, who then either help with the issue or, if it's needed, forward your message to Scott.
It directs members to the FAQs and other pages because their questions are usually answered in one of those places. However, you can send a message from there.

I hope this helps. :tiphat:

I completely agree!
I keep a bunch of tabs open because whenever I navigate away from my history or score for example I have trouble finding it again. I find the site quite difficult to navigate through. It's very frustrating going around in circles trying to find what I'm looking for!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who wishes this site was easier to navigate.
And thank you for the post. Happy to know there someone else who thinks almost exactly like me.

Sorry, did not mean to. It's just that I found the last one first, then when I found this one I thought it was more relevant. This person says almost exactly what I Have been feeling.

Gali, your link does not take me to info for new members. As I said in my post, I read everything. I understand how to set up my reviews and the importance of writing in correct review form. It does not explain how to navigate the site successfully.
Again, I tried to send as a PM but I am not allowed to do so.

The link Gali provided is working fine for me. Where is it taking you?

Anyway, Gali's reply was to another member. Please read my reply to your initial post.

The best way to navigate the site is via the link gali provided, or the right hand drop navigation menu at the top of the page. :tiphat:

Suggestion: To remove old information. I've noticed that Google+ is listed in the suggestions of where to post links for our review and I've seen Google + listed in other places around the site. Google + no longer exist. The site will look more professional with up to date information. On the daily giveaway page on the LinkedIn option is old information from almost a year ago. I know the site is updated often but to leave that information up makes it look like the site isn't staying current. I like this site and I'm just trying to make it the best I see. :D
