You can also buy baen books directly from them and they are committed to DRM free e-books, which I love. Their prices are very reasonable. (I am not affiliated with them in any way. I've just been enjoying watching the evolution of baen free books for several years.)

Some other resources I have come across for free e-books are:
Manybooks.net
OpenLibrary.com
Project Gutenburg
etc.
I would check out your state library's website to see if they have an e-book program. Sometimes you have to put holds on titles you want, but to me it has been the best resource yet for free e-books! Your local library may also have a program.
