I think the amnesia is real even though it seems like he used it to conceal his failure as a husband or an architect. Interestingly, that's where the suspense of the book is hidden.

I am of the opinion that his amnesia was real. However, I think it was caused more by trauma than by the accident. The struggles he went through would not have been chosen by anyone if they could avoid it. I think there were some things in his life he was trying to avoid.

I believe his amnesia was real but not caused by the accident, as we are told. I believe it was a result of emotional stress and trauma.

I say definitely genuine. Though I do feel that mental illness became the bigger issue as time progressed. He just couldn't cope with a lot of what was going on in his life and the fact that he couldn't remember such important aspects of his life drove him to deeper mental issues. I think his biggest mistake was not telling anyone what he was facing; he could have worked through it with professional help but his conspiracy theories and delusions caused him to deal with it all alone.

I think his amnesia was genuine. It's not easy to fake amnesia. But it surely gave him an excuse to hide his past failures as an architect, husband, and father.

In my opinion John's amnesia seems real to me as he had many difficulties in life and putting up an act like that for this long is just not possible.

Tue or fake but John tries to hide it, like it points to be true amnesia. Whatever problems he had in the past are easily removed if he has no memories of them and it eases all the burden. I think it was true amnesia.

I honestly think that the amnesia was fake. I think that he used that as a cloak to hide his failures. Maybe he started off faking it but later started believing it himself

i don't really think anyone could fake amnesia for long, so from the information which i got from the novel, john's amnesia was never a fake,

I was shocked when I found out about John's amnesia. Because amnesia is one of the cliches I don't want to see in a book. But I think John's amnesia is genuine because there's this type of amnesia that tends to protect our brain when we are undergoing a massive force of stress and information. But if John is faking it, he is such a great actor because I truly believed that it is true.

I was actually going back and forth between his amnesia being real or fake. At some instances, I thought he was faking it because of the situations he was in, and at some, I thought it was genuine. I am still to decide whether it was genuine or not. Though, somewhere I feel he was faking it.

Yes, I agree that he had Amnesia, but I believe the cause of the same has to be the mental illness or stress if to put in simple words rather than some other happening.

The amnesia might be real or artificial, as I've read in some books that there are some conditions in which your brain goes into defense mode to safeguard your entire mental state. As a result, it causes amnesia or memory lapses. Because these designations are a big load to bear, John may have rejected recognizing himself as a failing spouse, father, and architect, resulting in his current predicament.

I really think his amnesia is as real as can get. Firstly, I don't think there's enough reason for him to fake something like that for such a long while. The other reason I think it's real is just a gut feeling. I would like to find out though.

I think his amnesia was genuine, but perhaps he did use it almost like an excuse for his previous failures once he recognized all the memories he was missing.
