If Life Stinks, Get Your Head Outta Your Buts is a shoot-you-straight kind of book. Mark Wdowiak does not beat around the bush in his book that is working to inspire his readers to make the most of their lives. He manages to be brutally honest while maintaining a level of optimism and hope readers are looking for. He tells his readers how everyone can become successful, but they cannot get there simply by wishing for it.
The book is separated into three areas-learning to crawl, walk, and run. His practical premise helps break down the things that are happening in life that could be keeping someone from being successful. Wdowiak makes the reader question what is getting in the way of success while pointing out the excuses, “reason[s] based on a lie,” one makes when things do not go as planned. While Wdowiak has become successful in relationships and wealth, he mentions many times throughout the book that success is different for everyone depending on what they are looking for. He connects his failures to the changes he made in his thinking that helped him become successful.
The questions posed in the book were my favorite part as they required in-depth self-reflection. They encourage taking responsibility for every situation in the readers’ lives. There is also advice for moving past the things that are getting in your own way. The part I liked least about the book was it began to feel repetitive. The closer I got to the end, the more I felt like I was rereading things I had already read.
Because of the repetitive nature, I would rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I was captivated for the first several chapters, but then it felt like a slower read toward the end. It is very similar in nature to other self-help books. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for some type of personal growth. It is well edited and easy to read.
I think this book would be appropriate for anyone seeking a little spark to grow mentally, emotionally, physically, or financially. The responsibility for one’s life does make a person reflect on the problems in their life. Is the attitude of a person their true problem? After all, “You attract in life what you are, not necessarily what you want.” Specifically, this book could be a great read for people who tend to be negative and need someone to be blunt with them in order to help them see how negativity may be impacting their success.
