Building Your Financial Empire One Brick at a Time by Wanda P. Bowman is a nonfiction book filled with financial advice. The biggest thing that Bowman emphasizes in the book is financial independence and its importance. She provides ways in which anyone of any age can achieve this. Bowman draws from her own life experience to show her readers how to accomplish this. Her novel is basically a guidebook about planning for future prosperity.
The two main points that the author consistently highlights in her book are passion and purpose. It is her belief that an individual must have both in order to achieve financial success. She encourages her readers to let those two things drive them as they plan and build their financial empire. The book provides a thorough guide for better money management and budgeting, all while keeping those important concepts in mind. There are six parts to the novel, each detailing an essential aspect towards reaching the goal of financial independence.
There were many things I enjoyed about this book. I really liked how eloquent and descriptive Bowman was when explaining her points. She makes a lot of great arguments throughout the book and is able to back them up very well. She also draws from her own personal experience to validate her reasoning. That approach made her advice seem more practical and doable. Furthermore, even though the book’s target audience is young adults, she still manages to reach out to other age groups. She encourages anyone of any age to start building their financial empire. Bowman also provides examples of budget plans, which I thought was a great addition, especially for visual learners.
This book was generally well-edited and developed. It maintained a good flow and was very organized. My only small issue was some grammar mistakes that I caught while I was reading it. Even though they were minimal, they made the novel seem a bit sloppy. However, the overall content made up for it. While a little distracting, the errors did not take away from the book.
All in all, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It seemed professionally edited for the most part, despite the few errors. It was an excellent read and provided good financial advice. I would certainly recommend this book to young adults since I believe they could learn a lot from it. I also think anyone who is struggling financially would benefit from reading this book. However, this isn’t the best choice for someone who finds finances boring, or is simply not interested in guidebooks.
