Overcoming in the Great Tribulation by Stanley F. Rogers is a book that encourages utilizing the Bible to withstand the difficulties of life. The book is encouraging and uplifting. The author does a good job of moving the reader through the book of Revelation, tracing Christianity from its beginnings to the present day.
The Bible contains the information that we need to maneuver through this world. The author relays that we are not meant to understand everything about the Bible, but with the help of the Holy Spirit, we will be given what we need when we need it. But we must spend time alone with God and in the Bible to develop a close relationship with Him and to be able to spend eternity with Him. The author does well in summing up the purpose of the book in the last paragraph of the introduction. We must have an intimate relationship with God to fulfill the plans that He has for us in this world and experience eternal life.
The book is filled with thought-provoking information and provides the author’s insights as he has spent time in the Bible and praying. The author writes from a perspective that is different from the teaching that some other Christians have experienced, especially in terms of the Great Tribulation. The author backs up the writing with many Scripture texts and explains his perspective well. No one knows everything about the Bible, and that is why the author encourages readers to read it in its entirety repeatedly. It is important for Christians to read the entire Bible and not just take excerpts out as needed. The author does a good job of recapping the messages to the churches in Revelation 1 and 2 in the final chapters of the book.
The book was well-edited, as I found no grammatical errors. The book is best suited for those who want to dig deeper into the Bible and grasp an understanding of the past, present, and future with God as well as events that are occurring in the world today. The author uses Scriptures from throughout the Bible as well as quotes from writers like C.S. Lewis. I found nothing that I dislike about the book. The author writes from a preterist perspective, which is different from some interpretations, but he has included much to support this perspective. The truth is that no one on earth understands everything about the Bible, and that is the reason we must continue to spend time in God's Word and with God daily. I rate the book 5 out of 5, and I will continue to reference it.
