Based on the review, unless you are really interested in California, this sounds like a dull read. This doesn't sound like a book to read for fun. I think I'll pass.

Thanks for the review. I will pass reading this book as I don't enjoy nonfiction and lengthy books.

I was superexcited to see some historicals but when I visited the pages - I felt letdown. It's like revisiting 1950 History Books. Not revisiting California. By the way, California coast has 3 parts missing. Tea leaf told me at the Chinese Restaurant. In between 2 islands there is Stonehenge Energy.

I have a deep interest in geography, that's why the title caught my attention. Good to know about how the state became modernise and now provides the food to most of the world, due to its fertile land. Funny, but my interest in California is also because, my mother lives here. :no-spoil:

Nice review. This sounds like a good book for history aficionados especially interested in the history of California. The text book like volume does seem a bit daunting for me though. Thanks for sharing.

California is famous for its famous Silicon Valley at least for technologists and computer enthusiasts in other parts of the world, but here is a book which tells about its geography, history, and climate. And it is quite interesting to know that California has diverse climates and only two seasons: wet and dry. I would like to read this book and thanks for the free copy.

This sounds like an informative book on the history of California but I am not a history buff and the length of the book will deter me from picking it up. Thanks for the insightful review.

This sounds interesting especially those parts where it was occupied by native Indians and wasn't it part of Mexico before too? I agree that this should not be lengthy so readers will not lose interest.

California is a fascinating state - progressive, diversified, naturally beautiful. I'm hopeful i'll be able to visit it soon. This book is a must for Californians to study. It seems to be ideal for classroom teaching. Thanks for the free copy. I'll surely hang on to it.

Thanks for the interesting and informative review. It does seem that the author put a lot of time and effort into this lengthy book on the history of California. Learning that the author can trace his family roots in California back over 100 years I imagine it is not surprising that he feels a strong attachment to this state.

I agree with the reviewer that even with the well-written and easy to read language, it’s historical content both old and new, as it is quite lengthy it probably is more catered to a certain audience.

I have only visited this state once, on a trip to Sonoma and Napa Valley. Bodega Bay and the and Sequoia Redwood are quite magnificent. As this book does have a geographical content, I think I may tackle this book in small bites.

It sounds more like a text book read. I like reads based on historical events not solely historical read. I better check this read. Thank you for your review!

Splitting this book into multiple volumes is a great suggestion. The subject matter is interesting and I would like to read, but the length of the book would factor into the decision to purchase. Thank you for a well-written review. It was very informative.

Nice to hear that today's BOTD was well-researched and credited, especially since it is used as a textbook in some areas of California. Wow...you basically read a text-book length book. Not many can say that! I agree that if this is to meant to attract the interest of the general population, multiple volumes would better suit the topic. Either way, I have downloaded my free copy - you never know when historical documents of this nature might come in handy, especially in the classroom with my students. Thank you so much!

This sounds like an interesting book, and the amount of research that was obviously is extremely impressive. Definitely isn't a quick read, and I agree that separating the book into volumes would have been effective. Thank you for your review.
