When you think about capitalism and communism, what comes to mind? Have these terms been categorized under different sectors of morality for you? Larry Vaughn's non-fiction book The Good, The Bad, & The Hope We Have: A Treasury of Useful Quotations is a thought-provoking book about American patriotism and its preservation.

The book is divided into three different sectors, each carrying a vital message about the cancer of our generation. “The Good” narrates the patriots of America and their preservative measures, starting from the First Awakening of America, inciting the American Revolution that led to the building of a God-fearing nation. The book also lays emphasis on the Second Awakening, which brought about the end of slavery in America. “The Bad” gives profound knowledge of the effects of democratic socialism and communism. It emphasizes the damage inflicted on the world ruled by Marxist-Leninist teachings of communism and how it caused lack of freedom, destruction of American patriotism, and annihilation of capitalism. It serves as the cancer that is gradually corrupting our society and all we fought to preserve. Lastly, “The Hope We Have” is a call to duty for every American patriot to preserve our core values as patriotic citizens of our fatherland, which is the preservation of the American Revolution.

The Good, The Bad, & The Hope We Have: A Treasury of Useful Quotations by Larry Vaughn is an educative read that enlightens me beyond measure. A profound amount of knowledge was put together in creating this masterpiece, and I found that to be admirable. Additionally, it provides an opportunity to learn history, starting from the birth of American civilization to the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 and the Battle of Normandy speech by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944. Our nation has been built on sacrifice, and the American Revolution lives within us, and it will be despicable if we dismiss the utmost core values of our nation. In addition, the awareness of the deception of communism and its cancerous attempts in our modern-day society to reform our education and take away our freedom is another admirable point I deduced from this book. This book doesn’t only serve as a book of enlightenment but, as previously said, as a call to duty for every patriotic citizen of America to preserve the core values and the American Revolution our forefathers have fought for.

The Good, The Bad, & The Hope We Have: A Treasury of Useful Quotations by Larry Vaughn has a debatable point that I disagree with: its stance on capitalism. Evidently, the disadvantage of capitalism across the ages has been witnessed; the major disadvantage it poses is the massive wealth gap between the middle class, the rich, and the poor. The constant competition has created room for wealth accumulation without limits; this sole reason has caused the majority of the masses to live in poverty, and what freedom do they have if the basic amenities of life are extremely expensive for a commoner? In my opinion, capitalism and communism both have their advantages and disadvantages. In a failed state, the major cause is not capitalism or communism but the ruling party at the time, as this is the major factor that contributes to the freedom of humanity.

Moreover, I did not find a single grammatical error while reading this book, and I can clearly claim that it has been exceptionally well edited. It was indeed an insightful read that shaped my understanding and perspective of politics and history; for this reason, I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.

The Good, The Bad, & The Hope We Have: A Treasury of Useful Quotations by Larry Vaughn is an amazing nonfiction book. I would recommend this book to readers of nonfiction, lovers of history, and patriotic enthusiasts, as these are the core themes of this book.
