When I chose to read “Writing in Parallel: How Polling for Paragraphs Can Solve the AI Trust Problem,” I believed it was going to be one more book showcasing writing techniques, and that I would have to double my efforts to read through it. How wrong I was! This book kept me interested throughout, offering continuous insight into a topic that I believe could revolutionize how we view expertise and intelligence in modern times.

This eye-opening book is centered on the power of writing in parallel and its ability to train AI in such a way that it produces collective reasoning that is transparent and insightful, therefore democratizing expertise. At present, we are all witnessing a key issue when relying on AI: trust. To what extent can AI really be trusted? The author argues that writing in parallel can fight oversimplification of human thought and can counter the opacity created by AI, generating divergent and convergent outputs that should enrich decision-making and enhance understanding, leading to enhanced trust. Can writing in parallel transform AI training? With writing in parallel, full paragraphs can reveal individual perspectives, which, when put together, result in enhanced judgment and expertise. In this book, you’ll be introduced to writing in parallel, the power of length-based writing, and polling for paragraphs, all of which aim to strengthen collective reasoning.

I love that this book uses simple sentences that convey the intended meaning with clarity. The sentences are just the right length. Although this is a book on writing, the author has made it accessible and easy to follow. I can assure you that you won’t feel bored at any point in the book. I also have to commend the author for the editing, which was excellent, except for one missing hyphen.

The strength of “Writing in Parallel: How Polling for Paragraphs Can Solve the AI Trust Problem” lies in its novelty, introducing a simple yet powerful tool (writing in parallel) that might be able to democratize individual voices, preventing us from falling into the trap of a single expert or a few experts monopolizing knowledge and judgment. Another big takeaway after reading the book is the answer to the question: How can the ideas in this book transform what I currently do? I’m totally convinced that, whatever your specific context, the ideas and advice contained in this short read will leave you with initiatives at your fingertips. I’m giving it 4 out of 5 stars. I’m deducting one star because the book repeats the main idea a little too often, which is the only thing that could be improved. However, this novel concept of writing in parallel, with its specific techniques and implications, is worth your time for the reasons mentioned above.
