Review of One's Perspective
Reading this book was initially heartbreaking. No one, and I mean absolutely no one, not even an adult, should have to go through what the author went through as a child. In One's Perspective by Patricia McGrew, the author tells us about her life growing up. She starts from the very point she could remember, which I would call the beginning of our conscious lives. The author tells us how she was maltreated by her stepfather and his children and how she was deprived of staying with her father, who was the only person who made her feel loved. She talks about how her stepfather always reminded her that she didn't belong and that he didn't like her. He did this through very humiliating actions. She was forced to programme herself to endure all these painful situations. She also talks about her youth, which is another sad story, a period of drug addiction, failed relationships, unexpected pregnancy, and fake love. However, there is a bright side to the story: how she found herself and how, despite all odds, she became a woman that I am also very proud of. Read this book to find out what brought about this positive change.
This is a really eye-opening read on what people go through and how difficult life can be—how cruel, how humiliating. However, this book, this life story, is a strong attestation to the fact that there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel; no matter what it is you're going through, don't give up. I loved the fact that the author started this book from the very point she could remember.
I can't end this review without talking about her writing style; it is very engaging. I must say this is the most engaging book I have read this year. I really needed to get to the end. I loved this book. There is nothing I dislike about this book; it is a truthful story of survival, not just survival but truly living. I did not spot a single grammatical error in this book. The editing of this book was perfect. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
I recommend this book to anybody who's currently going through any difficult circumstance or any tough situation and any person who feels that they are alone in their struggle. Perspective is indeed truly important; having a positive perspective would definitely yield a positive result.
