Have you wondered why in society the rich get richer and the poor poorer? Have you also thought of the reasons why employees get fired immediately when they fight for their rights? What about the population explosion in most western countries? These and other issues have been addressed in The Decline of Democratic Society in the New Age. This is a non-fiction book written by Giovanni Soriano and published in 2017. The focus is on the state of democracy today, especially as regard to the ordinary person. The author has successfully re-examined the decline of our democratic society using facts and figures with the world's economic history. It has been established that severe economic stress can be a characteristic of fascism. Fascism has been defined as socialism that favours the rich. Modern fascism has been defined as the willful undermining of the democratic order in the service of capital with the ultimate purpose of eliminating the middle classes through war, immigration, and oppression imposed by the new capitalized class.

India-Pakistan and sub-Saharan Africa have been noted as two main centres of population growth. The population problem may not only be a threat to humanity, to the natural world that sustains and to resource accessibility but may also threaten democracy due to the competition for limited resources. The effect of immigration has been explained. It has been said that the most potent and effective attack on democracy by the western government has come in the form of immigration and the idea that democracies should be pluralistic. Thus, if an employee is not satisfied with his salary or working conditions, there are new immigrant workers who can take the place.

The journey to the decline of the democratic society has been presented in an insightful and informative manner. The combination of facts and figures, as well as major world events in proving major points, have convinced me that the author is knowledgeable on this subject matter. Reasons why some countries adopt some economic policies, have been explained. Some important terminology has been critically analyzed in relation to fascism.

It has been stated that greed gave birth to America with the new oral consciousness. An example is the smoking of tobacco. The author has given his readers the opportunity to know the world history from the economic perspective. Readers are equipped with the knowledge of managing their resources. It has been established that a million dollars in the hands of one hundred employees serve an economy much more than a million dollars in the bank account of one person. A critical analysis of the chosen topic has been done to make it very relevant to the content of the book. The contents of the book are presented in a systematic manner so readers can follow the various points without difficulty. Credit must be given to the editor of this book as there are no spelling or grammatical errors. The author has included some pictures making his analysis meaningful. He has supported all his points with important dates. This book can be a useful manual for students studying history and economics. Political leaders may find this book useful as the information presented can be employed in the running of their economy. However, the fascist may dislike this book as they are exposed.

Readers may encounter difficulty reading this book because some of the words and expressions are technical. This impedes the speed of reading. It is necessary to use simple language so an average reader can understand. The font size is relatively small. Readers may strain their eyes when reading. The chosen font size must be reasonable.

I hope the author will fix these minor shortcomings in his next edition so I give his book a distinction. This is a good job done by Giovanni Soriano. I, therefore, rate his book The Decline of Democratic Society in the New Age 3 out of 4 stars.

I think the timing of this book is perfect. Countries all over the world are torn apart by failing social, political and economic policies. I expect the book could provide some interesting answers to the decline of democratic societies and the re-emergence of totalitarian regimes.

Indeed modern fascism is so evident in almost every country in the world. Wealth is not shared equally as it is usually only in the hands of the 1 percent. Thank you for your detailed review.

That's a very important point. This books seems to have a similar message to The Spirit Level by Pickett & Wilkinson, but it sounds quite dry and technical. I think I'll pass on this one, but thanks for the review.

I’m just finishing up a politically oriented book and like yours, very technical but I have learned so much! I don’t think I can read another one of this genre right away, but maybe after I have read some other genres. These types of books are never light reading! Good job on this!

The author has chosen important issues like population explosion, large gap between rich and poor, employment inequalities. It is interesting one. I would like to read this book. Thanks for your informative review.

The book feels a tiny bit xenophobic. Or perhaps I am simply thinking too much. I like economic books but I do not think this one will be a good match with me. Thanks for the review.

Yeah me neither. I would need to know what research they are using before spending my time on this book. With books like this I need to have some small trust for the author, and I just don't know for this one.

A book dealing about these questions and providing clarity with possible answers is definitely something worth checking out... Too bad about the formatting hiccups.

Thanks for stopping by my review.
