Review of The Marriage Seed
Lionel Moses wrote The Marriage Seed to share advice about having a successful marriage based on what he discovered after he got divorced. Readers will learn that they need to understand themselves to have good relationships. The author explains, “Remember that assessing our seed is an act of profound self-love and love for others.” He teaches that it is best to work on your happiness to have a strong foundation in a relationship where you can support each other.
What I liked most about this book was the advice on individualism, clear communication, and humility to maintain a healthy relationship. Moses explains that arguments are opportunities to grow and take responsibility for conflicts that come up. He simplifies relationship issues by engaging the reader with creative symbolism: he explains that ignoring problems will stunt a relationship just as neglecting a plant will lead to its decline.
What I liked least about this book was the section on serving and submitting to your spouse. I understand that the author is teaching readers how to create a mutual bond through compromise and choosing your spouse over your own needs, but it did not align with my personal beliefs. Other readers may find this section inspirational for achieving this style of marital bond.
I rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars. This book is well-written, and the author has an engaging writing style. I did not give this book a perfect score because I do not love it enough to recommend it to all readers. Some readers will not relate to the many comparisons of nurturing successful relationships to good gardening skills. For example, the author creatively makes comparisons such as, “Your relationship is fertile ground ready for the growth of seeds.” Some readers may not relate to this style of advice. Perhaps the title will draw readers who enjoy gardening as much as the author.
You do not have to believe in a specific religion, but the author does write a lot about God and faith in relationships that may not align with some beliefs. Therefore, I do not recommend this book to readers who would not enjoy plant care references as analogies to relationships or references to God and the Bible.
