Review of Why Jackie Scowled
On November 22, 1963, one of the worst crimes ever committed happened in Dallas, Texas. Lee Harvey Oswald shot and killed President John F. Kennedy and wounded Governor John Connally. This devastated not only our country but the world. President Kennedy was much loved and admired by people all around the world, and to this day, people remember where they were and what they were doing when they heard that he had been killed.
This book, Why Jackie Scowled: Leftist Oswald Shot Rightest John Connally, Polarized America Pays A Terrible Price, shows exactly how Oswald did it and why. I have read many books on the assassination, and I have even been to Dallas and explored the Texas School Book Depository and the very window where Oswald took his shots. It is a very eerie place that sends chills up your spine, but I never thought that Oswald did not intend to kill the president. In fact, Lee Harvey Oswald admired JFK. He read books about him and saw movies about this great man. He had hoped for JFK to run and win a second term. He talked about him often, but there was one person who might interfere with JFK’s second term. That person was Governor John Connally! Governor Connally was everything that President Kennedy was not. He was a lying, deceitful, corrupt man who would do anything to run against Kennedy. Oswald knew this and had to stop him, but he did not plan out his idea of killing the governor. Although he learned to shoot in the Marines, he never really learned how to shoot a moving target. Oswald never sat down and calculated the speed and distance of the bullets versus the moving limousine that the governor was riding in. He did not know what position Governor Connally would be sitting in the car or where President Kennedy would be. Oswald only heard about the motorcade coming down in front of the Book Depository a day or two beforehand. He grabbed his rifle, put it in a bag, and hid it on the sixth floor of the building where he worked, the TSBD,
This book aims to show you how Oswald made the biggest mistake of his life. He did not intend to kill President Kennedy. It was a mistake. The president was not his intended target. The book will show you the precise trajectory of the bullets, the placement of people involved, and the entrance of the bullets into their bodies. It will show the speed of the bullets and how, if Oswald had calculated that, the outcome would have been very different. You will learn about Oswald’s life, his marriage to Marina, his two girls, his stint in the Marines, his poor work history, and his political beliefs.
Why did Jackie scowl and look to her left in the car? How many bullets did Oswald expend? Was President Kennedy still alive after being shot? What happened at Parkland Hospital when the motorcade arrived? How did Vice President Johnson react to all of this, and did he try to hide things from the public? Did the FBI, CIA, doctors at the hospital, and Dallas police all make mistakes with the president’s body and the information about the assassination? All of these questions will be answered when you have read this book.
The book was very detailed and precise about trying to enact the assassination, what happened and why. I found some of it repetitive and boring, but some of you who would be fascinated by this information would find it very interesting. It is amazing how scientists can calculate all of the trajectories of the bullets, the speed, the position of the rifle, the trees in the way, etc. The author did a great job of getting the information out and proving the point of how President Kennedy was shot. Although some of the writing was technical, the words flowed over the pages and were easy to understand. The book's editing was incredible, as I found no errors. There was nothing that I disliked about the book. I only found some of the technical explanations a little tedious. For this reason, I am rating this book 4 out of 5 stars. This book is a book that everyone should read. Anyone who loves history or who is fascinated by what happened that day in 1963 will love this book. It answers a lot of questions about why things happened on that dreadful day.
