The Journey to Becoming a Great Student is a memoir by Awosanya Yusuff Adewale. He urges young ones to remember the importance of education. He aims to inspire them to enjoy their academic careers.

It seems like the current generation no longer values educations. We hear of outstanding achievers who have reached their dreams without earning that cumbersome degree. Why work hard to earn a university or college degree? The Journey to Becoming a Great Student is here to give you those reasons. It explains what you can gain from going through college, including some reasons that are not so obvious. Through the author's unique experiences as a student, he demonstrates how students can savour the challenges that come with college. The author states, "I strongly believe everyone’s story can help someone else, so read and enjoy my rollercoaster journey through my academic years. I am certain you will learn from it and be inspired as a result."

The Journey to Becoming a Great Student was a pleasure to read. The author uses his experiences to effectively drive home points. Despite his impressive accomplishments, he is not aloof in the narration of his story. This humility enabled me to relate to his struggles. For example, he keeps repeating that he considers himself to be an average student, that it was in fact hard work that got him where he is, not inherent brilliance. Furthermore, he uses wit, humour, and simple diction to bring his story to life.

Did the book reach the author's aim? Well, it helped me to change my attitude. As a third year university student, I usually drag myself through studying, assignments, and tests. After reading this book, I learned to view the challenges that come my way as opportunities to grow and learn. I no longer begrudge the sacrifices I have to make. I have a clear goal in mind, and that helps me to enjoy my moments at school. It is all thanks to this book. However, I am not so sure that it would convince someone who is set on finding success without a degree to change their mind. The author does give valid points about the benefits of college education, but one could argue that there are ways to reap the same benefits without college.

I would love to rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Sadly, it has a number of spelling and grammar mistakes. This leads me to to rate it 3 out of 4 stars. I recommend it to teenagers and young adults. The Journey to Becoming a Great Student will help you to rekindle your passion for learning.

First off, congratulations on your ongoing academics; keep up the good work! Second, I fully understand what the author means as he notes the growing popular belief that education is not essential today. I wholeheartedly agree that education teaches things (critical/objective thinking and communication are prime examples) that are otherwise exceedingly difficult to attain. Thank you for a wonderful review :)

I can identify with you, Kelebogile, I am also a third year student and always have to pull myself to submitting my work and preparing for my tests, worse for me, on the last minutes. I feel like this book could help me a whole great deal. Thanks for the amazing review.

This book's topic is interesting because there almost seem to be 2 schools of thought at the moment. One says that education is highly important and values a post-graduate degree. The other says that experience trumps education, and you have to have 5 years of experience of anything even for entry level. It's kind of a conundrum, so I'd be interested to see what this author says. Thanks!

I appreciate this author's humble attitude and his encouragement to enjoy, not just endure, the years of education. I believe he was successful if he was able to inspire you to change your own attitude! I appreciate the message of this book and would recommend it to young people today. Thanks for a great review!

it's kind of ironic, don't you think, that a book about diligent study and hard work has spelling and grammatical errors? However, I do like the message that effort matters as much as ability, maybe even more so.

The author's humility makes the book more reader friendly. It is good that the author is able to inspire and increase the enjoyment of college and the challenges it brings. I believe this to have been the author's aim.

I feel that this book relates to me because I am in the same situation with college. i find college to be interesting when i enjoy the topic, but if i don't i tend to shy away from learning it, but I believe that making things fun and interesting. That part is harder to deal with, but I enjoy finding people to talk to while I am studying in my classes.
