In a world full of distractions, particularly from social media, self-discovery has become a rarity. Nevertheless, to build a personal brand, self-discovery is the first step to discovering one's authentic self. "Branding a New You" by Erica Mayfair is a reflective and self-questioning book on the importance of personal branding for every individual. A lot of people cannot define branding beyond social media fame, but Erica dedicates her time to defining branding, how it can be attained, and how beneficial it can be to an individual.

The best part of this book is the practical step-by-step procedure for acquiring an authentic personal brand. These procedures are simple to understand and could be applied by an average reader. Also, the author did a good job in clarifying certain myths that are associated with personal branding. There are certain myths, such as branding is exclusively for celebrities, that this book clarified. Again, this book contains several clarifications of everyday concepts such as visualizing and daydreaming. Erica's writing was simple and yet very engaging.

There are a few negative aspects of the book. First, the author did not distinguish between weaknesses that can be fixed and those that cannot be fixed. Then, I felt some subheadings did not fit the chapters in which they appeared. An example of such is Chapters Two and Five, and while I would have loved to further explain why, I do not want to spoil this book for potential readers. Also, I noticed repetitions of certain ideas in various chapters in the book, such as consistency on social media as a tool in building personal brands.

There is only one error in the book; this shows that the book was professionally edited. So, I'll still rate the book 5 out of 5 stars because of the professionalism employed in editing the book and the positive aspects I have already discussed. I will recommend this book to every person interested in discovering themselves, being true to themselves, living an authentic life, and making an impact on others through their brands.

The practical steps and clarity around personal branding do seem helpful, but the repetition and some odd chapter placements might be a turnoff for me. While I appreciate the effort, I’m not sure if I’ll be picking this one up.
