Review of Explorers of the World: A Visitor's Guide to Italy
Explorers of the World: A Visitor's Guide to Italy, by Autumn L. Roberts, is an informative guide for tourists in Italy. The author covers several subjects including the best sites to visit, handy Italian phrases, cuisine, cultural norms, currency, and phone plans.
I have always wanted to visit Italy. This guide taught me a lot about many important aspects of traversing the country. I particularly appreciate how the author details proper manners and expectations when visiting Italian families, recommends the best food and delicacies, mentions LGBTQ-friendly locations, and discusses ecotourism. I have never read about ecotourism before in a guide such as this! It is a good reminder to be considerate of preserving significant locations. Before I read the book, I was not aware that certain types of sunscreen are harmful to the environment.
Illustrations of maps with specific locations highlighted and pictures of common sites would be nice to see. When the author discusses various cities and locations, it would be beneficial to have visual references. Most travel guides include photographs, which makes information more memorable to readers. My other constructive note is that it is jarring to read pages 79-80 in the middle of the book; this part encourages readers to leave a review of the book. This breaks up the flow of information. Also, it is not best practice to review a book without reading the entire text. The author urges the reader to do so again at the end of the book; this placement makes sense and should have been the only location asking for reviews.
I enjoyed reading this educational book. The well-written text only has a few errors. There are lovely sensory descriptions that made me eager to visit Italy! The prose is concise and easily understood. I appreciate that the author lists several references at the end of the book. Overall, I rate Explorers of the World: A Visitor's Guide to Italy four out of five stars. I deducted one star due to the author asking for reviews in the middle of the book and the lack of visuals.

Now, the reviewer does mention a couple of things that could be improved in the book. They suggest includin' illustrations and pictures to help visualize the locations and break up the text. The reviewer also found it odd that the author asks for reviews in the middle of the book, which interrupts the flow of information. They reckon it'd be better to ask for reviews only at the end.
Overall, the reviewer gives "Explorers of the World: A Visitor's Guide to Italy" a solid four outta five stars. That's a good rating, I'd reckon! They enjoyed the descriptive writin' style and found it educational. The reviewer appreciated the referencin' at the end of the book too.
So, if y'all are plannin' a trip to Italy and need a good guidebook, this one might just be worth checkin' out. Happy explorin'! Atmospheric setting, felt like another character in the story.
