Review of Beyond Treats: Revolutionary Dog Training for Lasting Behaviour Change
Are you troubled by your dog’s behaviour? Have you tried all methods but found yourself at your wit's end? George Tran’s book, “Beyond Treats,” may be what you are looking for. With a combination of passionate story-telling and practical tips, “Beyond Treats” offers solutions to many behavioural issues that dogs have.
Meet Emily. Emily spent many years as a grocery store manager before she decided she had had enough. She quit her job to pursue her dream of becoming a dog trainer. Together with her rescue dog, Buddy, she learnt of leadership-based training and thus began her journey. As we follow her story, we learn about different training techniques. We also learn about some common mistakes and how to correct them.
I enjoyed reading this book. The story-telling approach allowed the incorporation of various examples to illustrate the principles of the leadership-based training method. The book provided an overview of each principle before directing readers to the author's website for further learning. This was an effective way to avoid overwhelming readers with information.
The book was very well organised. It takes readers on a progressive journey to illustrate different methods for different stages. For example, we start with learning about the leadership walk before learning about more complex techniques. There is also a summary at the end of every chapter to review the principles discussed.
Some principles were repeated throughout the book. For example, the concept of the leadership walk was discussed frequently. This was repetitive, but also emphasised the importance of getting the fundamentals right.
Overall, this is an easy-to-read and easy-to-digest guide on dog training. Emily's story helps to provide context to dog training principles and illustrates their use in real life. Unfortunately, I found many errors in the book, suggesting that the book was not well edited. Therefore, I am giving this book 4 out of 5 stars. It is a good introductory read on dog training.

The combination of storytelling and technical information based on leadership-based training for dogs will keep the reader engaged. As a result, the reader will learn alot about the behavior of dogs, and their dog will be better served. This is an honest review, and I believe that the benefit to the readers in regard to dog training will outweigh the grammar mistakes.Yin Jiang wrote: ↑26 Nov 2024, 02:49 [Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Beyond Treats: Revolutionary Dog Training for Lasting Behaviour Change" by George Tran.]
