Your Lion Inside is a self-help book written by Kimberly Faith. The novel details ways in which women should harness their inner power to be all that they can be. Faith illustrates this by using the Sisterhood: seven women who are trapped by negative mind-sets. The members of the Sisterhood overcome these mindsets and become the best versions of themselves.

Even though I’m not usually interested in self-help books, I was drawn to Your Lion Inside. I personally struggle with self-confidence so the information and techniques in the book were extremely helpful to me. I really connected with Ranee’s and Jalila’s stories. The message for Ranee’s story was that it is okay if you don’t meet all the demands placed onto you by both the world and yourself. This is something I’m faced with daily due to my busy schedule. The message for Jalila’s story was that hard work can only take you so far if you are not willing to advocate for yourself. Both messages I plan to incorporate into my daily life. Faith’s style of using the members of the Sisterhood to portray her message was artfully carried out. This method allowed for readers to connect to the sisters and figure out which negative mindset they were stuck in. I also really enjoyed the inspirational quotes, movies, books, and stories the author included at the end of the stories.

Despite the helpfulness of the stories, Faith lost me during the latter half of the book. I felt like the book should have wrapped up shortly after the author finished telling the stories of the Sisterhood. It seemed like the author was repeating the same points. While I agree that individual change can cause important advancements for women, you can’t ignore the culture and environments that cause women to be hindered. Focusing too much on individual change can make it seem like women are solely to blame for the inequities they face.

Your Lion Inside contained some errors. Most of the errors were typographical or grammatical. One example included the use of effected instead of affected. However, the errors were infrequent enough that they did not detract from my enjoyment of the book.

I rate Your Lion Inside 3 out of 4 stars. The book was extremely thought-provoking, and I can see myself incorporating some of the techniques in my life. However, I feel that the latter half of the book should have been cut down or condensed. The book was a bit more focused on women in business, but I still think that the empowerment methods can be applied to other sectors. While the book is catered towards women, men can still read the novel to get a better perspective on the struggles women face as well as learning ways to empower themselves. I would recommend this book to both women and men, especially women who are struggling with being confident in their own skin.

Such a creative cover. I like that you say that although this book is geared toward women, men could also read it to have a grasp on the struggles that women face. The insight into sisterhood is also quite interesting.

I really enjoy books in which the authors include other resources such as quotes, films, and other books. Makes the books more fun. I agree with you in that it is also important to consider the environment in which women are working. That needs to change too. Thanks for the review!

Lavellan i fully challege myself to read this because of two major things
1. The art done on the cover of this book is of very attractive nature to an extent that even a little kid will pick it first among books.
2.A potential reader like me can smell a sense of motivation just by reading that introduction name on the cover.

Thanks for your feedback! I think that it is important to consider the work environments. For some women, even if they improve their mindsets, their workplace is not receptive. That’s why it’s important for women who have the ability to reach their full potential should try to tap into their inner power.

Thanks for your feedback! I think being an advocate for yourself is something that people often forget. It’s not selfish or bragging to be honest about your strengths.

Thank you for such a succinct review! I'm glad despite its not being perfect it gave you specific things to work on. Interesting point about separating individuals from culture: I firmly believe you are responsible for your own choices, yet you may have a point about certain cultures hindering women from choosing what they wish.
