It is not everyday that I read a review that persuades me to read a book outside of my norm. This sounds like a great book - relevant and definitely relatable. Thank you for your review.

It is one thing to grow up in a violent neighborhood and coming out of it. That would be another story to tell. The author has just done it so well to earn your praise.
Telling of what happened to the other characters that shared a life with the main character in the epilogue is intriguing. I would say, one of a kind.
Thanks for a detailed review.

I love a good memoir, especially an underdog story. It looks like the author was really honest about his hardships and his strained relationship with his father - I always appreciate that kind of raw honesty. I'm looking forward to checking this one out!

This memoir seems like a book I will read and treasure my wholeeee life, it remembers me to a character from a Jeffrey Archer's book, not very much alike in the story but in how the character fight in every step of his life and career against many many many things...

It's always great to hear success stories from those who've had a rough upbringing and become so successful. It's also great to hear that you found this to be one of the best memoirs you've read - that's quite the compliment! I love when authors pull you into their works that you find yourself glued to the book's pages. The epilogue that wraps things up like this one is always positive in my opinion, so I'm glad the author does this well. Too bad about the errors here, but I'm glad that you found this one enjoyable regardless! Thank you for sharing!

Reading someone's memoir could be frustrating sometimes especially if the context is not properly arranged, I hope to review this story in future.

Thanks for your review! It's admirable that the author was able to become so successful despite his adversities. I'm not usually interested in memoirs, but this book seems very exciting.

Wow, this will be a very interesting novel, your review was awesome and after reading the book sample I'm very much interested in reading this book. It's a very interesting memoire telling the rise of the author from the streets of Chicago to the height of business and socialism.

John Costello's memoir is nothing short of inspirational. If he could make it from a troubled background into the man we know today... It goes to show if one is determined, nothing is impossible. Great review @ellieonline03

Great review. I don't normally enjoy memoirs, as I prefer fiction, but I'd like to give this one a try. It sounds very intriguing. I like how you mentioned the author's relationship with his father. That must have been really hard on him, but he rose to the challenge and became a big executive. I would like to read about his journey. Thanks for the review!

Similar to the "rags to riches" type stories, but with a little more real life mixed in. Congrats on all of your success.

I can count on one hand the number of memoirs I've ever read, and they were all people like Maya Angelou. This one seems interesting. The description of the abusive father made me think of Pat Conroy's books, and I love stories about people who broke out of poverty and succeeded. I am definitely more interested than I was when I saw the title and description.

Thank you for the engaging review. While memoirs are not my cup of tea, I do think that this book sounds like a good book to pick up for those who enjoy memorable memoirs. I applaud the author for never giving up and continuing to surge forward to success.
