very interesting review. The book sounds like a dream come true for people who enjoy reading about different places and travelling experiences. I am definitely going to grab a copy of the book.
What is the most special thing I did today- I was MYSELF. Happy and in love and unapologetically myself.

Great review! This book sounds like something I would enjoy, since I like books about people's travel experiences. The section about their observations about people post-Sept. 11 sounds interesting. I always wished a New Yorker would write a first-hand account about how people acted post vs. pre-Sept. 11.

In 1970s, he made a similar journey between Pennsylvania and Arkansas across some 8,000 miles. Oh what a long journey

Great review-your enthusiasm for the author's story really shows. Having been in NJ during 9/11, I can attest to the sudden feeling of apprehension that emerged, especially if they were traveling through the Mid-Atlantic states when it happened.
Interested in books that help one's spirit move beyond the ordinary.

@Kat Berg thank you, I was surprised as well as how good the book turned out to be.

@Mtsweni Nelsy thank you for coming by.

@ZeroChill I find it amazing as well. I am a lazy person by default, so all I can do is live vicariously through their treks.

@Al Chakauya thank you, I agree with your sentiment.

@The Researcher you should, it is a darn good book.

@bookowlie I found that part particularly interesting as well. I am living in Europe, so all I've learned about 9/11 is from books, TV and what other people said online. I'm pretty sure that day was a defining moment in American history.

@thisisfinal213 yes he did. I wrote about that in the very beginning of the review. It's what inspired him to do it again. This time with a wife at his side.

@Spirit Wandering Thank you. I can only imagine how that fateful day changed people, and sadly, not for the better.

I can't wait to read this book after reading your great review. It sounds like a beautiful story. We had a mule when I was a kid. My dad rode it with a group. She was part of the family. I can see how a mule would be the perfect long-distance traveling companion. Thank you for another beautiful review.
