A Caribbean Tragedy is a non fiction story written by Roger Stutter and published in 2012. Featuring a young man who ventures out into the Caribbean in search of thrills and adventure and in the process finds more than he bargained for. From working as a senior computer operator in Newcastle to sailing across the vast sea in search of adventure.
This book is for thrill seekers and those looking for a little more than what they are used to. After leaving Newcastle, he arrives at Port-of-Spain, where he is signed on "Fireguard" as her first officer, after which he meets Alex MacAlister captain and ship owner of "Fireguard".He soon becomes acquainted with Alex and both men get fond of each other.
Alex takes him home to see his family and they all bond well. After introductions, Alex takes him to "Fireguard" the 1500 tonne cargo ship to meet the rest of the crew. He bonds well with the crew members but they don't like him very well at first, since he was assigned "First Officer" and had a room separate from them. They soon learn to respect him after his consistent efforts to make things right for them.
This book contains a very interesting story and within it, alot of valuable lessons to be learnt. Its a story that will be enjoyed by anyone and for matured minds only.As i read throughout the book, i was entertained and this is promised for whoever picks it up. The characters are very funny and perfect for the story. Cookie monster is the cook and has a cut throat knife whenever his cooking is insulted, Chris is the engineer, Cilbert is the bo'sun and James is the youngest on board. The crew members encounter different things at sea, good and bad; and come out of it as one. Alex eventually ditches the crew and heads for greener pastures leaving the crew members to fend for themselves; which they did effortlessly and eventually everyone found their paths.
Morris, the owner of the company the crew members work for, is a very stingy businessman who does not like to pay his worker's. The "first officer" always has to go to his office to plead with him to pay the workers and after a lengthy argument he pays up. Alex always left the "first officer" in charge and he did a pretty good job. At first, you will expect a murder based on the title A Caribbean Tragedy, but this is not what happens, as the title only entails the badluck and experiences the crewmen encounter at sea.Overall, this book has instilled in me the spirit of adventure and has changed my perspective on life.
I rate the book A Caribbean Tragedy 3 out of 4 stars, simply because the chapters were not properly arranged. Other than that, the book is awesome and is a good fit for anyone willing to go on an adventure. Kudos to the author!!
