UNEMPLOYABLE by Alysia Edith Silberg is the author’s story from an impoverished home in a crime-plagued neighbourhood in South Africa to a trail-blazing entrepreneurial career with a noticeable footprint in Silicon Valley. Growing up, the author had lofty ambitions but limited opportunities. She used to work in her dad’s store as a child, where she learned the ropes of entrepreneurship. Her talent and creativity made her a successful tutor and real estate investor. Despite her local successes, the author never gave up her dream of building a successful startup in America. What lessons from her life can you learn to be a successful entrepreneur? Find out by grabbing a copy of this book.

This book is about the author’s career and her family's struggles. Money was always an issue in the author’s childhood, leading to family disputes and domestic abuse. The author worked alongside her dad in a job that wasn’t his true calling but held on to his dream job nonetheless. Like her dad, the author resolved to follow her passion instead of a career as a dancer, which her mother tried to impose on her. Despite her minor financial successes in business and other domains, the author struggled to receive acknowledgement from her mom. Economic hardship and the perseverance coded in her DNA made the author an unrelenting fighter. Virtually every story the author narrated in this book had an important lesson that carries over to entrepreneurship. The author explained principles such as cutting costs, scalability, risk consciousness, and more through anecdotes.

I rate this book five stars out of five. It is well-edited, with simple sentences and funny metaphors that make reading enjoyable. The book is replete with lessons applicable to life and entrepreneurship. There are no instances of sex in this book but a single instance of minor profanity. The author narrated how she and her mother were victims of gun violence and robbery during her childhood, details that some readers may find disturbing. This robbery story has the only violent content in this book. There is absolutely nothing negative I have to say about this book, and I recommend it to readers of all religions and aspiring entrepreneurs.
