Review of Canaries Among Us
I love this book. It is an amazing job well done to the author. I lost my mom at a young age so, I loved reading books about parental love. When this book was recommended to me I was ecstatic to read it.
This book taught me a lot about myself and others. I wouldn't diagnose myself as I am not a doctor, but this explains a lot of things about myself growing up and how I am now.
I love the author and how she fought for her and her daughter against the odds of life. Sometimes in life, we judge people without getting to know them. I'm happy to have read this and taken its lessons with me as I go through life.
At the start, I did have a difficult time reading. I'm sure why but it got better, and I couldn't get myself to put it down after. I wish the author had more people to support her. I wish people wouldn't just gaslight her, but that's that. I am happy she stuck with her gut and made things alright for her and her family.
It was great to see the author deal with life. It was nice to see her do her best to make her daughter feel safe. I imagine myself seeing her in battle armor fighting for her family and society.
This novel just showed her past but you can imagine that our dear author is going to do great things. I'm happy to read about her journey and how she came through for her and her family. Her researching about anything and everything just to know and make her daughter feel safe, makes me feel warm inside.
This is heartwarming and it makes me feel sad to have seen how not many people just told the author that 'we are here for you' and 'we care' when she was going through all that. I recommend this to parents as well as non-parents out there who think they are alone. To know that there are people out there who care.
I'm going to give this novel a 4 out of 5. The reason is, even though this novel is good, it's just made me feel sad seeing how the world has the same issues everywhere. Also, sometimes the author herself made me want to shake her to stop second-guessing herself. Some small bits here and there, but they contain spoilers.
If the author ever gets to read this review just know that in a small West African country, an 18-year-old girl just wants you to know that you are a great mom and what you are doing is great.
