Review of The Gentle Art of Spiritual Discernment
The Gentle Art of Spiritual Discernment by Pierre Pradervand is a book that provides guidance to anyone who seeks to journey down the path of spirituality. This book encompasses a lot of concerns and the nitty-gritty of our walk on the path of spirituality. It serves as a guide to enable individuals to engage in trusted spiritual activities and develop a sense of what to expect along the path of spirituality. According to the author, spirituality is not in religions, which dictate every activity of individuals who choose to adhere to them, but is discerned from the inner self. It is more of a personal journey.
As individuals embark on the path of spirituality, there are certain questions the author believes should be their guide: Who is God? Who am I really? What is my purpose in life? What is my motivation to find my purpose? etc. Spiritual health is the foundation of our total well-being. This book provides a guide to health, which originates from the inner self. Aside from the aspect of health, spirituality can play a key role in happiness, ushering vitality into one's life and also creating serenity in the mind. The world is ruled by love, and connecting to the ruling love is one vital part of spirituality. Only then can other aspects of spirituality be unlocked.
I like many aspects of this book. The author's choice of words was carefully selected in order not to create a difficult reading experience. The author spoke from an experiential perspective, making the narrative more impactful. Most of the time, books centered on spirituality are boring and long as well, but that isn't the case here. This book is duly packed with knowledge in every chapter. The title of the book is also not derailing, as the book is centered on discernment in the path of spirituality while spreading its tendrils upon critical themes such as love. The major problem in the world is confusion, but spirituality can orchestrate, or rather, be a solution.
There's nothing I dislike about this book. The chapters are well specified to facilitate the reader's experience. I also appreciate the author's style of writing; the whole piece is coherent and doesn't deviate from the main theme at any point. I recommend a gentle reading in order to grasp everything the author weaves into the narrative. The book isn't complex anyway. I didn't notice any errors while reading this book, which shows that it was exceptionally well-edited.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars for the reasons I've mentioned above. I recommend this book to individuals who desire to take on the path of spirituality or those who are already into the practice because I believe that anyone of them has something to learn from the insights present in this book.
