Review of Beautifully Broken! God’s Masterpiece
Beautifully Broken! God’s Masterpiece by Hildreth A. Guilford is a book that will touch your heart and soul. It is a book that tells the story of the author’s life, from being a victim of sexual and physical abuse as a child, to finding healing and restoration in God. The book is a testimony of how God can turn a broken life into a beautiful masterpiece, and how forgiveness and faith can overcome the pain and trauma of the past. The book is also a message of hope and encouragement for anyone who has suffered abuse or any other form of adversity, and who is looking for a way out of their darkness.
The author was born as a result of her mother having an affair with a man other than her absentee husband, which led to her being an unwanted child. She endured unimaginable horrors since her early childhood. Her mother, who should have protected her, coerced her teenage brother to sexually violate her repeatedly when she was only three years old. She was trapped in a forced marriage with a man who was forty-two years old when she was barely a teen. She also suffered more abuse from her mother, who sold her to a 55 year old man and impregnated her with his child. She remarried later, but she faced the devastating loss of a child she cherished and the collapse of her marriage after twelve years.
One might wonder how a person could endure such immense hardships in life, but the author not only withstood them but also triumphed over her trauma through her faith in God. She recounts her encounter with God at the age of 16 and how His presence began to shape her life. She details her journey of learning to place her trust in God, engaging in prayer, delving into the Bible, and participating in church activities. She describes the gradual healing process she underwent, discovering her purpose and identity rooted in her faith.
The author celebrates the remarkable transformation God has brought to her life, emphasizing her ability to forgive those who harmed her and her dedication to assisting others who've experienced similar struggles. She expresses profound gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon her by God, including her family, her ministry, and the creation of her book.
The book is a powerful and inspiring story that shows the grace and love of God in action. The author writes with honesty, vulnerability, and courage, and does not shy away from exposing the harsh realities of abuse and its consequences. The book is also full of biblical references and principles that support the author’s faith journey and provide guidance for the readers. The book is easy to read and understand, and has a conversational tone that makes the reader feel like they are listening to a friend.
While it's undoubtedly a remarkable book, it may not resonate with all readers, particularly those who don't align with the author's religious convictions or perspectives. Some individuals might perceive the book as overly evangelical or repetitive on occasion, and there could be disagreements with the author's interpretations or implementations of religious texts. At times, the author tends to make broad assumptions or sweeping generalizations about specific groups or circumstances. For instance, categorizing all women who have had abortions as murderers. It's essential to acknowledge that the book might evoke distressing emotions or recollections for those who have encountered abuse or trauma themselves, potentially necessitating professional guidance or therapy.
I would assign a rating of 4 out of 5 stars to this book. In my opinion, it's a valuable resource that could offer significant assistance to individuals contending with abuse or various types of suffering. However, I did come across numerous grammatical mistakes throughout the text, which did disrupt the reading experience, highlighting the requirement for professional editing.
I'd suggest this book to individuals in search of a narrative of redemption and personal growth or those interested in exploring the ways in which God can impact our lives. It's also a recommendation for those who've encountered abuse or trauma firsthand or have acquaintances who have. I believe this book can provide solace and encouragement to those facing such challenges. Nonetheless, I'd caution readers to be mindful of their emotional well-being and to seek professional assistance if necessary.
