Eating Well For A Healthy Lifestyle by Anthony Elliott is a book for anyone interested in adopting a healthy eating plan and making positive health changes.

Being happy and healthy can be a big challenge due to busy lifestyles. To be successful, one needs willpower and determination, plus an understanding of the science behind nutrition. Our bodies need fat, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, and minerals, but we need education on the correct amounts. The book advocates analysing what we eat and building healthy eating habits. It is essential to count calories and follow a desired diet plan. Many diet plans are in the book, which can result in weight loss, increased health benefits, and nutrition to keep you mentally alert and physically active.

The book contains information regarding healthy eating backed up by science. Each essential food group is covered, and why the body needs it. The description of dietary fibre is interesting. Fibre helps digestion, stabilises blood sugar, lowers cholesterol, and reduces calorie intake. I also learned about saturated and unsaturated fats. Saturated fat remains solid at room temperature and can lead to atherosclerosis. This explanation is one of the many scientific facts in the book that can help the reader understand the need to make healthy choices. I enjoyed the educational content that has enabled me to be more mindful when choosing what to eat.

Many different diet plans are in the book, some of which I hadn’t heard of before. There is something for everyone with the various options. A two-day diet plan for each diet is helpful to motivate readers. As well as more traditional diet plans, there is a segment on intermittent fasting. I particularly enjoyed this part as it is a topic I am interested in.

Some of my favourite parts of the book are food myths and an extensive list of fun facts. A misconception is that you should eat breakfast like a king. Doing this can increase calorie intake. A fun fact I will take away is eggs are a healthy food choice for breakfast as they keep you fuller for longer.

I found a handful of spelling and grammar mistakes in the book, but I do believe the book has been professionally edited. I enjoyed the information given and the scientific content. The fun facts and food myths are a great addition. There wasn’t anything I disliked about the book, and the few errors I found didn’t hinder my enjoyment. I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars.
