[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "The Wrong Side of the Room" by Norman Mathews.]
The book follows the life of Norman Mathews, a telling of happy, sad, and confusing times. The book starts with the telling of a young boy with Sicilian ancestry. The book continues with his hardships and struggles throughout life and depicts how he became a dancer on Broadway, but as all was going so well, tragedy strikes; How did Norman overcome the obstacle this time? No matter how many obstacles were in his way or how many times he was knocked down fought for his ambitions and passions.
I loved the introduction. I’d never read an intro quite like the one in the book, and I audibly laughed. The details and the little personal touches the author added made it seem like we were having a conversation. There were parts in the book that were so horrific; it was devastating to think that they happened. One of my favorite parts in the book was when the nuns at the daycare were compared to witches. I couldn’t stop giggling at the comparison made.
There was nothing that I disliked. The book was a very open and honest portrayal of the author’s life. The book had me laughing at times as well as wanting to cry. The book was compelling, and it was incredibly hard to put down.
I have rated The Wrong Side of the Room by Norman Mathews 5 out of 5 stars. The book was phenomenal and flowed perfectly. The book was incredibly detailed; I struggled to put the book down and therefore found no fault in the book. The book was exceptionally well edited; I found no grammatical or spelling errors.
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading memoirs or autobiographies. People who enjoy stories of overcoming hardships would also enjoy reading this novel. After such an incredible read, I look forward to reading other pieces from this author.
