it's great that there are books like this to remind us how soldiers sacrifice a lot for peace that we always take for granted.. anyways, good job on the review!

I don't fancy war books because of its gory stuff. Thanks for this review because I see myself reading this book, to appreciate even more all who have sacrificed for the freedom I enjoy.

I'm must say that non fiction books have never really interested me until I came upon this one and read its review, the story seems interesting and sad at the same time, I would read it. Nice review

This is an interesting story. And your review made it more tempting to read. World War II stories always make good movie material. This will be one, if not yet made into film. The sufferings of these air-borne fighters are testaments to the dedication of heroes who would endure anything in the name of freedom. Thanks for the review.

Thanks for the review, hsimone. I'm not so much of a nonfiction fan, much less of war but for my newly developing interest in history, this book seems one to check out in relation to WWII, with an actual relatable character. It's remarkable that you "have no criticisms of this book. "

Wow! What a great review! The writer did a great job indeed to capture the focus of the reader, I believe that. This book is highly inspirational, informative and allows one to know that it isn't a child's play to be a hero, to engage in wars is indeed a bitter experience, survival of the fittest! I would like to read this book immediately, as a matter of fact, I'm full of enthusiasm. What an interesting story!

Books on WWII battles aren't my genre but this sounds like a very good book for those who have interest in such novels. Your review was thoughtful and well detailed-thanks.

I struggle reading war stories in any genre, so this one is not for me. This said, I truly admire those who have fought for their country and know that their experience is life-changing on a personal basis, and not always in a positive way. I am amazed, however, that there were survivors following this plane's demise which, even in today's society, is rare. This in itself shows true strength.

Thanks for the interesting review. I'm not a fan of non-fiction and I avoid war stories, but I'm sure many will enjoy this book.

War narratives hold my attention in no small measure. Steve Snyder's SHOT DOWN: The true story of pilot Howard Snyder and the crew of the B-17 Susan Ruth is a heart wrenching WWII story. For me, it is a must read. Great review, hsimone!

I've read a lot of both fiction and non fiction based on the world wars. I find them both emotional and inspiring to see how people coped. This book gives such a personal insight into not only the specific incident of the Susan Ruth, but of the war itself, with the use of letters and diary entries. This is obviously subject very close to the author's heart. Great review.

The expression compiled with meticulous organization over a greed
and confusing childhood during the growing years an so after. But a good reminder for everybody during the reading. It means a refhesment for the mentioned war vet and a retrieval in fortresses for a civilian consciousness. Like asking nor expressing: Shoot down..
